37 Killed in Pakistan Election Office Bombing

First off, the death toll due to this bombing has changed 4 times in two hours so it would not surprise me to see upwards of 60 or 70 dead by the time all is said and done. An election office of Bhuttos opposition party in the city of Parachinar (about 300 km west of Islamabad) was bombed today with scores killed and wounded.
This was directed at the opposition leader, Riaz Hussain Shah, but he escaped without injury.
Now, at this point no one has claimed responsibility but let's see...al Qaeda? Taliban? Is there a difference?
One thought on this as it represents a constant chain reaction of attacks stemming from the assassination of Bhutto is that President Bush has been correct on much of his talk about the jihadists trying to disrupt and overthrow any semblence of democracy. Sure, this is partly about establishing chaos and creating a scenario of a country vulnerable to a extremist takeover but at the heart and soul of this is the elimination of the democratic process. Al Qaeda abhors the democratic process. They are islamofascists. Notice the word "fascists" in that word? Fascists do not exactly pin their hopes on the votes of people. So, once again, Bush has been in the lead on not only attacking global terror but he has identified the root cause of the targets.

Here's the full story.

2ND LD: 37 killed in blast near Pakistan opposition party's election office

Thirty-seven people were killed Saturday in a blast near an election office of the political party of assassinated Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, the private television channel Dawn News reported, quoting an Interior Ministry official.
Scores were also reportedly injured in the blast.
The explosion erupted outside the election office of Riaz Hussain Shah, a candidate of the Pakistan People's Party in Parachinar, about 275 kilometers west of Islamabad, private GEO television said. He escaped safely, GEO said, adding that a majority of the victims belong to the party.
The blast was caused by a suicide bomber, GEO said.
The blast occurred two days before a key general election on Monday.
Rows over President Pervez Musharraf's reelection leading to a state of emergency being declared across the nation and the assassination of Bhutto on Dec. 27 had caused a postponement of the election.
Reuters news agency quoted a doctor in the main government hospital in Parachinar as saying, "It's a very bad situation. Bodies are lying everywhere but we have not yet counted them."
Parachinar is the capital of the Kurram Tribal Agency near the Afghan border.
