Kenya is like a pot getting ready to boil ...or probably more like a pressure cooker filled with too much rice as the Muslims in the country seek to avenge the killing of one of their elite.  I wonder if those Muslims have stopped to consider the blood bath that would ensue if Christians went wild over every killing in their community?

Kenya quells unrest after Islamist's killing: Report


MOMBASA (Kenya): Kenyan police fired in the air and unleashed tear gas to disperse scores of Muslim youths angered by the killing of a prominent Islamist in the port city of Mombasa this week, a Reuters witness said on Friday.

Tensions have been simmering in the tourist hub since Tuesday when unknown attackers shot dead Abubakar Shariff, more commonly known as Makaburi, who was accused by the United States and UN security council of supporting Somali militants.

About 100 youths streamed out of the Masjid Shuhadaa mosque in Mombasa's rundown Majengo area, throwing stones and charging a group of journalists outside the house of worship. They scattered when police fired in the air.

Another group of Muslim youths tried to loot a local business but dispersed under tear gas fire from police.

Kenya, which has east Africa's largest economy, has been on edge since an assault by Somali al Shabaab rebels on a Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi in September in which at least 67 people were killed.

Makaburi's close associate Aboud Rogo, a cleric who preached at Masjid Shuhadaa mosque, was killed in a drive-by shooting in 2012, while radical cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Omar was killed in a similar way last year. Both incidents sparked riots.

"As you all know, we are faced with a resurgent extremist movement," President Uhuru Kenyatta said at a function at a church, adding the nation would not be divided by "terrorists".

At a separate police ceremony, he said: "For those carrying illegal weapons, we give them two weeks to surrender their arms and they will get amnesty, failure to which they will face the full force of the law."

Many Kenyans criticise the government for what they say is worsening security and an inadequate response to Westgate.

Earlier on Friday two human rights groups said they had postponed protests over the drive-by shooting of Makaburi, who security sources say had become a leading member of al-Hijra, a Kenyan affiliate of al Shabaab.

Makaburi's supporters have accused state security agents of killing him, a charge they strongly deny.

Nairobi blast kills at least five: Officials


NAIROBI: A blast in Eastleigh, the main Somali district of the Kenyan capital Nairobi, killed at least five people on Monday, an official at the national disaster operations centre said.

"Police are securing the area for emergency response services," the official said. Eastleigh has in recent years been the scene of several explosions usually attributed by the police to Islamist extremists.

Dozens killed in north Kenya inter-ethnic fighting


NAIROBI: Dozens of people have died in northern Kenya in a week of fierce clashes between rival ethnic groups, aid sources and reports said Saturday.

The ongoing unrest, centred around the town of Moyale in Marsabit county on the frontier with Ethiopia, has seen villages burned down and many families forced to flee over the border.

According to the Standard newspaper, at least 27 people have been killed and thousands more displaced over the past week.

Kenyan peace and anti-tribalism campaigner Jaffer Isaak said he believed the toll was somewhere between 70 and 120 dead, while an independent international aid source, who asked not to be identified, said "many dozens" had been killed.

Switzerland's ambassador to Kenya, Jacques Pitteloud, said he was rallying other European envoys to join an effort to convene peace talks between the rival communities.

"People are dying, people are being pushed over the border, villages burned, houses looted. It has to stop before it degenerates further, so it's important to start peace efforts," Pitteloud told AFP.

The conflict pits the majority Borana community, which has traditionally dominated the area since Kenya's independence 50 years ago, against the Rendille, Gabra and Burji communities, who are allied in a grouping called the ReGaBu and have now emerged as a dominant political force.

Clashes between rival cattle herding pastoralists in the region are common, with herders often carrying guns to protect their animals, but the recent fighting has been unusually heavy.

Kenya's government on Friday ordered the army be deployed in the area.

Isaak, who heads Pillar of Hope, an anti-tribalism group, said Marsabit county was "on fire" and accused security forces of doing nothing to stop the fighting -- and even being supportive of the Borana militia, which supports Kenya's ruling coalition.

"People are slaughtering each other. The situation is out of control. The police are just watching, doing nothing. The army are just watching," he said, adding that the main highway linking Kenya and Ethiopia had been blocked.

The Standard newspaper also reported that heavy fighting was continuing in Moyale on Saturday, with plumes of smoke visible over the town, and fierce gunfire heard and military helicopters flying overhead.

Kenya says no to Somalia pullout after al-Shabaab attack


NAIROBI: Kenya has vowed not to bow to al-Shabaab's threats of more attacks if troops are not pulled out of Somalia, following a devastating mall attack in Nairobi by the Al-Qaida-linked insurgents.

"We went to Somalia because al-Shabaab was a threat to national security ... We will continue to take action on that front until our security and interests in the country are protected," interior minister Joseph Ole Lenku told reporters on Friday.

Somalia's al-Shabaab chief Ahmed Abdi Godane said the Nairobi Westgate mall carnage in which at least 67 people were killed would be followed by "more bloodshed" unless Kenya left Somalia.

Kenya invaded southern Somalia to attack al-Shabaab bases two years ago, and later joined the 17,700-strong African Union force deployed in the country.

Funerals continued on Friday for the victims on the third and final day of official mourning, with President Uhuru Kenyatta attending the service of his slain nephew.

As well as scores of Kenyans, many of the dead were foreigners, including from Britain, Canada, China, France, the Netherlands, India, South Africa and South Korea.

Nigerian Nobel literature laureate Wole Soyinka and other writers paid tribute to renowned Ghanaian poet and statesman Kofi Awoonor who was among the dead.

"We denounce these enemies of humanity," Soyinka said, accompanied by several writers and authors at a press conference in Freedom Park in central Lagos, Nigeria's largest city.

Dozens more are unaccounted for, with 59 people still listed by the Red Cross as missing after the attack — one of the worst in Kenya's history.

The extremists on Friday gloated at the massacre, which saw a group of gunmen storm the part Israeli-owned complex at midday on Saturday, firing from the hip and hurling grenades at shoppers and staff, before holding off Kenyan and foreign forces with a barrage of bullets for four days.

"The mesmeric performance by the Westgate Warriors was undoubtedly gripping, but despair not folks that was just the premiere of Act 1," the group said in one of a string of messages posted on social media.

Since the unprecedented 80-hour siege ended late on Tuesday, al-Shabaab have claimed responsibility for an attack on Thursday on a police compound on the border with Somalia, killing two officers.

Attacks are common in Kenya's northeastern border with Somalia, with regular grenade blasts or shooting ever since Kenyan troops crossed into southern Somalia two years ago.

Close to 200 people were wounded in the four-day mall carnage in one of Nairobi's largest shopping centres, which was popular among wealthy Kenyans, diplomats, UN workers and other expatriates.

Police continued to scour the fire-blackened rubble in Westgate for bodies and clues, with Lenku insisting that contents of smashed shops would be protected from looters.

Kenya's parliamentary defence committee meanwhile ordered army, security and intelligence chiefs to answer questions about the handling of the siege next week.

Army fired bazooka rockets

Police have pleaded for patience as Kenyan and international teams — including from Britain, the United States, Israel, Germany, Canada and Interpol — painstakingly examine the mall.

With around a third of the building collapsed — as though hit by an earthquake — and with the risk of booby traps amongst the mangled wreckage, the work of international forensic and security experts will take days to complete.

Several members of the Kenyan forces involved in battle inside the mall said that the fire broke out on Monday after Kenyans fired at least two bazooka anti-tank rockets at the gunmen, who were holed up in the strong room of a supermarket.

"In the end we had to use full force, we had to finish with these guys," said one member of the elite force.

Top Interpol official Jean-Michel Louting, speaking near the mall, told AFP the challenge for investigators was to try "to remove the three levels that collapsed and see what is underneath".

Interpol issued an international arrest notice at Kenya's request for 29-year-old Samantha Lewthwaite, dubbed the 'White Widow', a reference to her marriage to one of the suicide bombers who killed 52 people in London's July 2005 terror attacks.

Nairobi accuses her of alleged links to al-Shabaab and the possession of explosives in a 2011 plot, and there has been widespread media speculation over her possible role in Nairobi's deadly siege, despite no concrete evidence so far.

Five suspected attackers were killed in the mall and eight other people detained, officials said. Three others have since been released without charge.

Kenya further sought to shrug off the threats with the government issuing a defiant statement to say plans to raise close to $1.5 billion (1.1 billion euros) in a debut international bond issue were unaffected.

"The Kenyan economy, just like the spirit of our people, is unshaken by the recent tragedy," treasury secretary Henry Rotich said in a statement.

Still the country remains traumatized.

Somalis living in Kenya are terrified of retaliatory attacks, against the half a million refugees as well as members of the native ethnic Somali community.

Kenyan Mall Hostages Still In the Hands of Al Shabaab, Explosions Reported

The fate of the remaining hostages in the Kenyan Mall in Nairobi certainly doesn't look promising as the al Shabaab jihadis from Somalia have not budged - the latest reports are of explosions as the Kenyan military and security forces try to rescue those hostages.

For anyone thinking those hostages might get released, forget it.  Either they will die or their captors will die - nothing in between.

Gunfire, explosions as Kenyan troops battle to save mall hostages


NAIROBI: A series of loud explosions and heavy gunfire was heard at Nairobi's Westgate shopping mall Monday as dense black smoke billowed from the complex, an AFP correspondent at the scene said.

The area around the mall was teeming with Kenyan soldiers and armoured personnel carriers, as emergency workers and reporters were told to take cover.

Ambulances were also seen accelerating towards the scene.

The mall has been under siege by Al Qaeda-linked Somali gunmen since Saturday in an attack that has killed at least 69 people, with another 63 reported missing.

As the stand-off entered its third day, sustained bursts of rapid gunfire broke out at dawn, and soldiers posted around the complex ducked for cover.

This was followed by explosions and more sporadic weapons fire, AFP correspondents at the scene said.

The Kenyan army said it had secured most of the upmarket, part Israeli-owned complex, while a security official said a final assault was underway against the Somali Shebab rebels, believed to be pinned down in a part of the mall but using hostages as human shields.

“We have managed to rescue more hostages overnight and very few are remaining,” Kenyan police chief David Kimaiyo said Monday, in the latest of a string of upbeat statements. “We are also closing in on the attackers.”

Officials have not said how many people were being held by the dozen-or-so attackers, who marched into the sprawling four-storey complex at midday Saturday, spraying shoppers with machine gun fire and tossing grenades.

Shebab spokesman Ali Mohamud Rage warned the hostages would “bear the brunt of any force directed against the mujahideen”.

However, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has vowed the attackers will “not get away with their despicable and beastly acts.” ”We will punish the masterminds swiftly, and indeed very painfully,” he vowed in a speech Sunday, revealing that a family member — a nephew and his fiancee — were among the dead.

A Kenyan security source and a Western intelligence official said Israeli forces were involved in the operation, along with British and US agents.

Bodies still inside

Terrified witnesses told of scenes of horror and panic as the masked gunmen stormed in. Officials estimated some 200 people have been wounded, and the Red Cross made a nationwide appeal for blood donors.

The Shebab rebels said the carnage was in retaliation for Kenya's military intervention in Somalia, where African Union troops are battling the Islamists.

“If you want Kenya in peace, it will not happen as long as your boys are in our lands,” rebel spokesman Ali Mohamud Rage said in a statement posted on an Islamist website.

The group also issued a string of statements via Twitter, one of them claiming that Muslims in the centre had been “escorted out by the mujahideen before beginning the attack”.

A number of witnesses have been quoted as saying that the gunmen were trying to weed out non-Muslims for execution by interrogating people on their faith or asking them to recite the Shahada, or Muslim profession of faith.

The dead include four Britons, two French women, two Canadians including a diplomat, a Chinese woman, two Indians, a South Korean, a South African and a Dutch woman, according to their governments. Also killed was Ghanaian poet and former UN envoy Kofi Awoonor, 78, while his son was injured.

Rumours swirled that non-Somalis and women were among the fighters but the Shebab have denied such press reports.

'People sprayed with bullets'

Mall worker Zipporah Wanjiru, who emerged from the ordeal alive but in a state of shock, said she hid under a table with five other colleagues.

“They were shooting indiscriminately, it was like a movie seeing people sprayed with bullets like that,” she said, bursting into tears.

Security camera footage seen by Kenya's The Standard newspaper showed gunmen raking toilet cubicles with a barrage of gunfire, apparently after learning that several people were hiding inside.

Fighters later holed up in a cinema on the top floor and a security room of a supermarket, the paper added.

Cafe waiter Titus Alede, who leapt from the first floor of the mall to avoid being killed, said it was a “miracle from God” that he managed to escape the approaching gunmen.

“I remember them saying 'you killed our people in Somalia, it is our time to pay you back',” he said.

Other survivors said they played dead to avoid being killed.

In the hours after the attack began, shocked people of all ages and races could be seen running from the mall, some clutching babies, while others crawled along walls to avoid stray bullets.

Israeli interests in Kenya have come under attack before, and the Westgate mall — popular with well-to-do Kenyans, diplomats, UN workers and other expatriates — has long been seen as a potential target.

World powers condemned the attack, which is the worst in Nairobi since an Al Qaeda bombing at the US embassy killed more than 200 people in 1998.

US President Barack Obama called Kenyatta offering support “to bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice”, while UN chief Ban Ki-moon said the violence was “totally reprehensible".

Gunmen storm Nairobi Mall, 15 killed: Red Cross

(Reuters) - Gunmen stormed a shopping mall in the Kenyan capital on Saturday killing at least 15 people, according to the Kenyan Red Cross, and sending scores fleeing into shops, a cinema and onto the streets seeking safety.

The Somali militant group al Shabaab had threatened to strike the Westgate mall, popular with the city's expatriate community; but there was no immediate claim of responsibility from any group. Al Shabaab said it had no comment on the attack.

Police helicopters circled overhead as armed police shouted "get out, get out", and scores of shoppers fled the building. Smoke poured out of one entrance and witnesses said they heard grenade blasts.

Others said they saw about five armed assailants storm the Westgate shopping mall and that the incident appeared to be an attack rather than an armed robbery.

Sporadic gun shots could be heard two hours after the shooting started as police combed the building, hunting down the attackers shop by shop. Some local television stations reported hostages had been taken, but there was no official confirmation.

"They don't seem like thugs, this is not a robbery incident," said Yukeh Mannasseh who was on the mall's top floor when the shooting started. "It seems like an attack. The guards who saw them said they were shooting indiscriminately."

One eyewitness who identified himself as Taha said he heard the screech of brakes followed moments later by an explosion and then sustained gun fire from the ground floor.

Another survivor said he was shot by a man who looked Somali.

Some shoppers ran up stairs and escalators and hid around the mall's cinema complex. Police found another terrified group hiding in a toilet on the first floor.

At least two dozen wounded were wheeled out on stretchers and shopping trolleys. Many of the victims had multiple light wounds, apparently from flying debris. Other walked out, some with bloodied clothing wrapped around wounds.

The Kenyan Red Cross told Reuters at least 15 had been killed and more casualties were still inside the complex.

"The casualties are many, and that's only what we have on the outside," Kenya Red Cross Society Secretary General Abbas Guled said. "Inside there are even more casualties and shooting is still going on."

"CARNAGE"

Kenya blames al Shabaab and its sympathizers for a string of shootings, bombings and grenade attacks against churches and the security forces since Kenyan forces moved into Somalia to help battle the al Qaeda-linked militants two years ago.

Al Shabaab have previously threatened to launch strikes on Nairobi's tower blocks and soft targets including nightclubs and hotels known to be popular with Westerners in the capital. But they have so far failed to carry out such an attack.

"I personally touched the eyes of four people and they were dead. One of them was a child," said one former British soldier at the scene.

"It's carnage up there."

Asked if the attack was a robbery, one paramilitary officer said: "No, terrorist". There has, though, been no official statement from the police regarding the attackers' motive.

Police cordoned off the roads surrounding the mall in central Nairobi's Westlands neighborhood.

Satpal Singh, who was in another cafe on the mall's top floor said he ran downstairs when he heard the gunfire and was shot at near the mall's main exit.

"A Somali guy shot at me. The guy who shot me was carrying a rifle, an AK-47," 36-year-old Singh said.

Muslims in Kenya Throw Grenades Into Christian Church's Sunday School Room, 1 Child Killed...3 Wounded

Muslims in Kenya, reportedly sympathizers of the al Qaeda group, al Shabaab, have attacked a Kenyan Christian church...specifically the Sunday school classroom where they threw grenades into the classroom and the end result was one dead child and three wounded.

Wouldn't Mohammed be so proud?  The might Muslims have killed a little child with a grenade while that child sat in prayer to G_d.  Oh yes, I'm sure the "Prophet of Doom" would be so pleased.

Deadly Kenya grenade attack hits children in church


One child has been killed and three seriously hurt, police say, in a grenade attack on a church's Sunday school in the Kenya capital, Nairobi.

The attacker targeted St Polycarp's church on Juja Road.

A police spokesman blamed sympathisers of Somalia's al-Shabab Islamist militant group, angry over Kenya's involvement in peacekeeping activities.

A mob later rounded on Somalis living near the church with sticks and stones in a suspected revenge attack.

Police chief Moses Nyakwama told the BBC's Focus on Africa programme that 13 people had been injured in the revenge attack, in the suburb of Eastleigh.
'Running for their lives'

Reports suggested a number of those hurt at the church were injured in a stampede after the attack.

A police spokesman, Charles Owino, told Reuters news agency: "We suspect this blast might have been carried out by sympathisers of al-Shabab.

"These are the kicks of a dying horse since, of late, Kenyan police have arrested several suspects in connection with grenades."

The authorities said three children were seriously hurt in the attack, and a number of others suffered lighter injuries.

The Red Cross had earlier said six children were critically wounded.

Irene Wambui, who was in the church at the time of the attack, said: "We were just worshipping God in church when suddenly we heard an explosion and people started running for their lives.

"We came to realise that the explosion had injured some kids who were taken to hospital and unfortunately one succumbed."

Senior Nairobi police officer Moses Ombati appealed for calm after youths reportedly attacked the nearby Alamin mosque.

Nairobi and the port city of Mombasa have suffered a series of grenade attacks since Kenya sent troops into Somalia last October.

The attacks in Mombasa escalated after radical Islamist preacher Aboud Rogo Mohammed was killed in a drive-by shooting in August.

In July, 15 people were killed in raids on churches in Garissa, near Kenya's border with Somalia.

There was speculation that al-Shabab or its sympathisers were responsible.

No, it's not Nigeria and it's not Somalia and it's not the Sudan...it's Kenya this time where an al Qaeda-linked terror group's top dog got taken out and his throng of moron Muslim supporters have now gone into their second day of rampage.  I read the article and can't see who is suspected of killing this guy but no matter who, it's great news - well, it's great news for us, not so good for the regular people of Kenya who now have to put up with rampaging Muslims.  I'm guessing that Kenyan security forces did it in some way but who knows, I'm sure this doofus had some enemies in his own ideological cult.

Kenyan Muslims riot after murder of Shabaab-linked cleric


Kenyan Muslims in Mombasa have rioted for the second day in a row after a Shabaab-linked cleric who was recently added to the US's list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists was gunned down.

Shabaab supporters rampaged in Kenya's second largest city after Sheikh Aboud Rogo Mohammed was shot and killed as he was driving with his wife on Aug. 25. Shabaab supporters quickly organized and attacked and looted two churches, torched a government vehicle and other cars, and killed one person. The man was "slashed to death," according to The Daily Nation. Police have arrested 12 people for their involvement in the rioting, which is still ongoing.

Rogo, who served as the spiritual leader of the Muslim Youth Center, a Shabaab and al Qaeda-linked group in Kenya, was listed by the US as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist on July 5 along with two other Kenyans, a Sudanese, and two Eritrean military officers [see LWJ report, 2 Eritrean officials designated for supporting Shabaab]. The other two Kenyans who were designated are Omar Awadh Omar, a facilitator who was involved with the planning of the double suicide attack in Kampala, Uganda in July 2010, and Abubaker Shariff Ahmed, a close aide to Rogo.

The Muslim Youth Center, which is Shabaab's affiliate in Kenya, declared it was "part of al Qaeda East Africa" on Feb. 10, just one day after al Qaeda and Shabaab formalized their longstanding relationship and announced their merger [see LWJ report, 'We in MYC are now part of al Qaeda East Africa'].

The US Treasury Department said that Rogo served as a fundraiser, radicalizer, and recruiter for terrorist activities.

"He continues to exert influence over extremist groups in East Africa as part of his campaign to promote violence throughout East Africa," the Treasury Statement said. "As an ideological leader, Aboud Rogo Mohammed has used an extremist group as a pathway for radicalization and recruitment of principally Swahili-speaking Africans for 'action' in Somalia."

Starting in February 2009, Rogo began issuing "a series of inspirational lectures" in which he "repeatedly called for the violent rejection of the Somali peace process," and urged Muslims to attack United Nations and the African Union Mission in Somali (AMISOM) forces in Somalia. He not only encouraged his followers and other Muslims to wage jihad in Somalia, but provided assistance to those who sought to travel to fight there.

"Aboud Rogo Mohammed also offers guidance on how Kenyan recruits joining al-Shabaab can evade detection by the Kenyan authorities, and which routes to follow when traveling from Mombasa, Kenya, and/or Lamu to Al Shabaab strongholds in Somalia, notably Kismayo," Treasury said. "He has facilitated the travel to Somalia of numerous Kenyan recruits for al-Shabaab."

Both the Muslim Youth Center and Shabaab have reacted to Rogo's death. The MYC Press Office, a Twitter site linked to the Muslim Youth Center, reported that Sheikh Ahmad Iman Ali, the group's leader, said: "We are on the right track when our leaders get shahadah," or martyrdom. Ali, who has fought in Somalia, was named the "Supreme Emir" of the Muslim Youth Center on Jan. 6. The MYC Press Office also indicated a formal statement was forthcoming and that it has "sent messages to the mujahideen in Tanzania about reports of Sheikh Rogo's death."

The MYC later released a formal statement announcing Rogo's death.

"As a popular and well-respected Sheikh, Aboud Rogo used his unique gift and knowledge of Islam to inspire and inform thousands of young Muslims all over East Africa," the statement said, according to the SITE Intelligence Group. "Undeniably, MYC and its members are part of the generation of Muslim youths that have been inspired by Sheikh Aboud Rogo's vision of the Muslim Ummah in East Africa."

Shabaab issued a formal statement on Twitter that denounced "the cold-blooded murder of Sheikh Aboud Rogo in Mombasa" and urged "the Muslims to wake up to the Kenyan authority's vicious witch-hunt against their fellow Muslim brothers."

Shabaab said that although Rogo "was not officially a member of Harakat Al-Shabaab Al Mujahideen, he, like the rest of the Muslims in Kenya, shared unbreakable religious ties with the Mujahideen." Shabaab also accused the Kenyan government of conducting "a spate of extra-judicial killings ... against innocent Muslims in Kenya."

"Ministers" of the "Religion of Peace" descended upon a couple of Christian churches in Kenya today attacking them with grenades and when the worshipers were fleeing the burning structures, the Islamic terrorists opened fire on them - a total of 10 Christians were slaughtered.

Kenyan churches hit by deadly grenade attacks



Ten people have been killed and 40 wounded in simultaneous attacks on two churches in north-eastern Kenya near the Somali border, according to a police official.

Police commander Philip Ndolo said gunmen threw grenades during the attacks on Sunday.

The bloodiest attack was on the African Inland church in Garissa, a town 120 miles west of the Somali border. Attackers threw two grenades inside the church, one of which exploded, Ndolo said.

As the congregation attempted to escape, the gunmen opened fire. Ten people were killed, including two police officers guarding the church, and about 37 wounded. Militants from Somalia were immediately suspected.

At a second Catholic church in Garissa another grenade was thrown, wounding three people.

Garissa is one of two major towns near the Somali border. It lies to the west of the Dadaab refugee camp, which houses nearly 500,000 Somali refugees.

On Friday armed attackers kidnapped four international aid workers with the Norwegian Refugee Council and are believed to have taken them to Somalia.

Northern and eastern Kenya have suffered a series of attacks over the past year. Kenya sent troops into Somalia in October to hunt al-Shabaab fighters. The militants, who are allied with al-Qaida, have threatened repeatedly to carry out revenge attacks for the invasion.

Islamic Terror Hits Kenyan Bus Station, 4 Explosions Kill 3 People

Africa continues its downwards spiral from the onslaught of the Islamists across the continent when today in the capital of Kenya, at a bus station, four separate explosions went off killing three people at the time of the report from CNN.

At least three people were killed and others were treated for wounds following explosions at a bus station in the Kenyan capital Saturday, the Red Cross said.

The explosions occurred in central Nairobi, the agency said.

"Scores" of people were rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment, the Red Cross said.

At least 40 people were injured, including eight critically.

The explosions happened at the Machakos Country Bus station, which sends buses to the city of the same name southeast of Nairobi.

Witnesses told CNN affiliate KTN that they heard four separate blasts.

"We still need to complete investigations and we can not immediately confirm who did this, but we highly suspect that it is Al-Shabaab or sympathizers of Al-Shabaab," police deputy spokesman Charles Owino told CNN.

Two things to take from the article - first, we see where al Shabaab is suspected and that makes sense as the wave of al Qaeda moves into the central part of the continent. Secondly, we can see how this death toll is sure to rise - the 8 in critical condition will probably all die and with 40 more injured, we could see a final death toll of nearly 20.

At some point in time, these African countries are going to have to ask for some help - they simply will not be a match for the Islamists as they wreak havoc on the land.

There have been several instances of grenade attacks in Nairobi in recent months. Like this suspected attack, they took place at bus stations and at a bar near the bus station.

Kenyan Army Takes On Somalia's Al Shabaab...Vows To Take Somali City

This is going to be very interesting, to say the least as Kenyan military troops have already moved into southern Somalia and taken one city and vow to continue on and take the al Shabaab stronghold city of Kismayo...a port city.

The statement was made yesterday by Major Emmanuel Chirchir, a spokesman for the Kenyan Army, according to The Associated Press. Chirchir said that Ras Kamboni was taken by a Kenyan battle group that entered southern Somalia from the Kiunga border crossing point. Shabaab forces abandoned the area without a fight.

"This avenue provides the Defence Forces with a vantage to clear al Shabaab and pirates on the Somali waters from Ras Kiamboni to Kismayu," Chirchir said, according to The Nation.

In late 2006 and early 2007, Ras Kamboni served as a training and communications hub for the Islamic Courts Union, Shabaab's predecessor, and al Qaeda. Slain al Qaeda leaders Fazul Mohammed and Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhand were among several leaders sheltering there. Ethiopian forces fought for two weeks before seizing the town.

Kenyan forces are advancing on Shabaab strongholds in the south from two directions. Further west, Kenyan forces remain stalled on the road to Afmadow after capturing the town of Qooqani. Kenyan officials said that troops are bogged down due to heavy rains in the region.

Al Shabaab, of course, is the al Qaeda affiliated Islamic terror group that controls much of Somalia and as has been seen over the years, has itself ventured into Kenya to conduct numerous terror attacks. Apparently the Kenyans have had enough of the muzzies coming in to kill people inside of their borders.

It will be even more interesting to see if al Shabaab puts out a call for help to the rest of the al Qaeda world - I'm not sure Kenya is prepared for a full out conflict with thousands of jihadis flooding in from the Middle East and north African countries.

Personally, I hope the streets of Kismayo are piled high with dead al Shabaab...now THAT would make a fun postcard to send to Ayman al Zawahiri.

The Kenyan Army has deployed two battalions, one in each sector, against Shabaab forces, The Associated Press reported. Each battalion has an estimated 800 soldiers, and is backed by armor, attack helicopters, and artillery. Strike aircraft have also been spotted over southern Somalia. The US is known to operate unmanned Predator and Reaper drones over the region.

Ethiopia attempted to crush the Islamist groups in the south in the recent past, only to cede ground. Ethiopian forces invaded Somalia in late 2006 and pushed the Islamic Courts Union from power. But after fighting a bitter insurgency that saw an Islamic Courts faction and Shabaab retake control of much of central and southern Somalia, the Ethiopian troops withdrew from Somalia in 2009, leaving a weak Transitional Federal Government that is backed by an estimated 9,000 African Union peacekeepers from Uganda and Burundi.

Shabaab has been under pressure after abandoning most of Mogadishu over the last several months. Its forces have withdrawn to areas south of the capital. Despite losing ground in Mogadishu and against Kenyan forces in the south, however, Shabaab still controls vast areas, including the western town of Baidoa, which was once the alternate seat of power for the Somali government, as well as the port cities of Marka and Baraawe.

Islamic Terrorists Bomb Bus in Kenya, 3 Dead ... so far

Well, it appears the Christmas onslaught from Islam is underway with a bus in Nairobi, Kenya being hit by a bomb left by a passenger in a package or suitcase. There are currently three people dead from the bombing, with perhaps more to come.

"Twenty-three other people are admitted to hospital with various injuries," he added, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Kenyan Police Chief Mathew Iteere said one man who had abandoned a piece of luggage on a nearby street was arrested.

"We are now trying to link this luggage to the attack on the bus," he said.

Iteere did not explicitly call the blast a terrorist attack but mentioned "an explosive device" in one piece of luggage as the source of the blast.

As police sealed off the area, bomb experts collected evidence around the red Kampala Coach bus, which appeared to have suffered limited damage, an AFP correspondent reported.

Well, if this clown on the scene, this Police Chief, isn't willing to call it an islamic terror attack then I will - let's see who is right. Good grief - at what point in time is it just going to be automatic when shit like this happens that it's the misfits of Mohammed that pulled it off?

And why is it so important for the islamists to make Christmas the time of bloodshed? I thought the islamists didn't have a problem with Christians? I thought the islamists only had issues with the Western countries who occupy "their" lands? Or could this be the way of the Muslims in this world to reinforce that we all better convert to the prayer rug clan and quick?

One witness was quoted on Kenyan television describing what he said was an attack by three people who were attempting to board the bus and detonated an explosive device when a security guard tried to check their luggage.

Uganda's police chief, Kale Kayihura, had told AFP that the threats emanated from the Shebab, a Somali insurgent group which has pledged allegiance to Al Qaeda, and the Allied Democratic Forces, a Ugandan Islamist group.

His Kenyan counterpart said however that it was too early to link the Nairobi attack to the threats received by Kampala.

Uganda in July suffered East Africa's worst attacks in 12 years when suicide bombers struck two Kampala bars during the football World Cup final, killing 76 people.

The Shebab claimed the coordinated bomb attacks and warned that any country supporting the central Somali government it is battling in Mogadishu and the rest of Somalia would be a target.

Three Kenyan police officers were killed in two separate gun and grenade attacks in Nairobi earlier this month.

The motive behind the attacks on the police remains unclear and Kenya said it had asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to help it probe the incidents.

Following the attacks, Kenyan police arrested hundreds of people in the Eastleigh neighbourhood, an area overwhelmingly populated by Somalis, and argued that tighter security would be enforced during the holiday season.

Al Qaeda in Somalia, a.k.a. al Shabaab, Targets The Country of Kenya

Al Shabaab, the rag tag al Qaeda franchise in Somalia, has decided to place the country of Kenya on its "most wanted" list and is promising to attack the African country. From the report at The Long War Journal:

A senior leader of al Qaeda's affiliate in Somalia has declared jihad against neighboring Kenya for supporting the weak Somali Transitional Federal Government.

The declaration of jihad against Kenya came from Sheikh Hussein Abdi Gedi, the deputy leader of Shabaab in the strategic southern port city of Kismayo. During an interview on Al Andalus Radio, Shabaab's radio station, Gedi accused Kenya of arming and training Somali's disorganized military.

"Kenya has prepared troops that comprise of Kenyans and Somalis, who are trained to attack and take over the regions," Gedi said, according to Garowe. "They are planning to attack us on the land, sea and air. We are urging people to be ready and defend our land."

These idiots from al Shabaab can't even take a 20 minute rest in their own land with what they have going on with the Somali government and Ethiopia but now they are announcing jihad on Kenya. Someone's eyes are bigger than their stomach.

But what this all shows is the spread of islamic terror inside of Africa that I have been warning about for over 2 years - we have seen the northern tier of African countries already inundated and now we see the push to the south - I don't have to remind everyone that the Christmas Day suicide bomber arrested in Michigan was from Nigeria. It is spreading as islam itself spreads which brings up a point I'd like to make.

If radical islamic terror is such an anomale like the so-called "experts" want us to believe...that it is just a minority of muslims that resort to terror and that the vast number of muslims are moderate and peaceful, then why is it that EVERY FUCKING MUSLIM COUNTRY HAS ISLAMIC TERRORISM?

Name one country on this planet that is dominated by islam that does NOT have an islamic terror problem. Go ahead, name one.

Shabaab calls for jihad against Kenya

A senior leader of al Qaeda's affiliate in Somalia has declared jihad against neighboring Kenya for supporting the weak Somali Transitional Federal Government.

Gedi's statement comes just days after the Ras Kamboni Brigade, formerly one of the four groups in the Hizbul Islam alliance, broke ties to the group and joined Shabaab. Both Shabaab and the Ras Kamboni Brigade pledged support for al Qaeda and the international jihad.

Kenya has trained more than 2,500 troops to fight against Shabaab and other anti-government Islamist terror groups such as Hizbul Islam, according to a Feb. 6 report in Garowe. The troops "are expected to complete the trainings in the coming days," a Kenya military official involved in the training told the newspaper.

The Somali government has promised that it will launch yet another offensive in Mogadishu in an attempt to eject Shabaab and Hizbul Islam from the capital. Previous offensives have failed to dislodge the Islamist groups.

The weak Transitional Federal Government, backed by thousands of African Union peacekeepers, controls only small enclaves within the capital of Mogadishu, and little else. The South is firmly in the hands of Shabaab and Hizbul Islam, although Shabaab has gained the upper hand since the merger with the Ras Kamboni Brigade.

A pro-government Sufi Islamist militia called Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama’a controls some regions in central Somalia, however, and often clashes with Shabaab and Hizbul Islam.

Al Qaeda Leader In North Africa Narrowly Escapes Capture In Kenya

This was close and dammit, the Kenyan authorities came up empty in nabbing al Qaeda in Eastern Africa leader Fazul Abdullah Mohammed. Fazul had apparently snuck into Kenya from Somalia to get some needed medical attention where Kenyan officials got a tip on him but he escaped capture. Here's some of the details from The Long War Journal:

Kenyan police raided a home after "intelligence reports show that he came into the country from Somalia to seek medical attention because of a kidney condition," an anonymous senior detective told Reuters. Two men were detained and two of Fazul's passports were found.
Fazul appears to have received a tip that helped him escape. "We sealed off the whole area and had sea and land patrols but unfortunately, Fazul got leakage of the intended raid and escaped," the official told Reuters. "We are still looking for him."

As to just why Fazul is such a big prize in the region, take a look at his list of terror acts:

Fazul, an 18-year veteran of al Qaeda, is considered one of the terror group's top commanders in eastern Africa, where he serves as the operations chief. He was responsible for planning the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, as well as the 2002 car bombing attack in Kenya and missile attack on an Israeli airliner. He also served as the intelligence chief for the Islamic Courts during its reign in 2006.

If there is any saving grace in this missed capture, it would be that Fazul didn't get his medical treatment and his kidneys are barking at him as he scurries back to Somalia. My guess is that Somalia isn't a hotbed for endocrinology.

The West has been after this asshat for quite some time and you may remember a couple of missile strikes the U.S. has launched at him over the past year and a half so I would say this cat's days are numbered. Whether a U.S. missile gets him, or a Kenyan police officer or his kidneys, it has been too long coming.

Fazul joined al Qaeda after traveling to Pakistan in 1990. He was a member of the al Qaeda team that participated in the Battle of Mogadishu in October 1993. Two US Black Hawk helicopters were shot down and 18 US soldiers were killed during the heavy street fighting.
Fazul, along with al Qaeda leader Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan and Abu Tala al Sudani, has been sheltering in Somalia with the Islamic Courts and its radical offshoot, Shabab. The Islamic Courts and Shabab have stepped up its attacks in Somalia the past several months. Islamic Courts and Shabab fighters attack Somali and Ethiopian forces on a daily basis and again control vast swaths of central and southern Somalia.
