But it vowed that the massive port, gateway to the Aegean islands for hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers every summer, will be emptied "in a few days."

"Do not lose your courage, we stand by you, we love you...!" reads a leaflet that will be distributed at the port from Monday, the merchant marine ministry said.

The leaflet in Arabic, Farsi, Greek and English urges migrants not to trust smugglers and to refrain from violence in the wake of several brawls between rival nationalities at the port in past weeks.

"Do not despair. Remain calm. Make sure that no violent incidents take place among you," it says.

Although Greek authorities have so far pledged not to use force against the migrants, the document says that "in a few days the port of Piraeus will be emptied (evacuated)."

The authorities offer few guarantees as to the migrants' future beyond the provision of accommodation and healthcare at organised migrant facilities.

"Since other European states have closed their (borders) it is true that nobody can be sure for the exact course of events to come," the leaflet says.

Greece is running out of time to clear the port before the celebration of Orthodox Easter on May 1, a period of busy traffic to the islands through Piraeus.

"The port of Piraeus cannot host you anymore and you have nothing to win by remaining here," the flyer says.


"From now on, the port of Piraeus will have to service significant volumes of traffic of vehicles and passengers," it adds.


According to the government, there are still over 4,600 people in the makeshift camp of Piraeus that has taken over a number of passenger terminals.

Overall, there are over 52,000 people trapped in Greece after Balkan states further north closed their borders to migrants.


Efforts to persuade the migrants to relocate from Piraeus to other camps have so far met with only limited success, as only a few hundred people have left, fearing that they will be trapped inside closed camps under police guard.

France orders expulsion of big swath of Calais migrant camp

PARIS: Authorities issued an expulsion order on Friday for hundreds of migrants living in a huge swath of the Calais camp in northern France, demanding that they remove their makeshift homes and possessions within four days.

Residents of the southern sector of the camp, known locally as "the jungle," must clear out by 8pm on Tuesday so it can be razed, according to the order by the state authority for Calais. Police will remove those who refuse to clear out, the order said.

Authorities estimate that 800-1,000 migrants live in that sector, crammed with shops, cafes, mosques and churches. They want the migrants — mainly Syrians, Iraqis, or Afghans escaping conflict, or Africans fleeing countries with poor human rights records — to move to nearby heated containers or welcome centers around France to reconsider their dreams of reaching Britain on the other side of the English Channel.

The expulsion order came a week after Prefect Fabienne Buccio announced that the southern sector of the 18-hector camp on the edge of Calais would be razed. She said those living in the area — the most built-up section of the camp housing a total of around 4,000 migrants — would have a week to move.


Humanitarian groups say the number of people living in the southern section are many more than 1,000.

Eight associations working in the camp, including Doctors of the World, sent a protest letter on Thursday to the French interior minister contending that alternatives proposed by the state are "very far from answering the needs of the problems encountered" and predicted migrants who refuse them could scatter along the coast. Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve countered in a written reply that the evacuation would go ahead "progressively."


No time limit has been set to clear the area, which has become a mini-slum town.


The order cited a series of problems, from violence by migrants trying to slow traffic to jump on a truck to growing anti-migrant tensions among extreme-right elements, a lack of hygiene and human dignity.

COPENHAGEN: Denmark's parliament passed measures on Tuesday aimed at deterring refugees from seeking asylum, including confiscating valuables to pay for their stay, despite protests from international human rights organisations.

The measures, which also include extending family reunification among refugees from one year to three years, are the latest sign that the Nordic welcome for refugees is waning as large numbers flee war in Africa and West Asia for a better life in Europe.

The "jewellery bill" is the latest attempt by Denmark's minority centre-right government to curb immigration to a country that took in a record 20,000 refugees last year. Under the bill, refugees could keep possessions amounting to $1,450. Valuables of special emotional value such as wedding rings will be exempt.

During a three and a half hour debate, dissenting voices from left parties were heard. Denmark isn't the only Nordxic country trying to shut its doors to migrants. Sweden, which took in over 160,000 refugees last year, introduced checks on its border to Denmark at the start of the year.

'It's too cold' Refugees would rather return home than face European winter

Almost 70 per cent of Iraqi asylum seekers have given up applications in Finland to go back to their war-torn country.

One Iraqi who decided to return said Finland did not live up to the expectations.

He said: "I don't know what happens to me in Iraq, but here I will die mentally."

Figures from the Nordic country's immigration service revealed Finland processed 3,700 Iraqi asylum seeker decisions in 2015.

Almost 2,600 of the decisions have now "expired", meaning the applicants have either cancelled the process or disappeared.

Juha Simila, head of asylum department at the Finnish Immigration Service, said applicants were disillusioned by the processing time.

He continued: "They have told us that family issues in their home country force them to go back.

"Some have found the Finnish atmosphere hostile and some have not stayed because of the dark autumn and cold winter."

Finland has seen a massive influx of refugees which has increased the immigration service's processing time.

The number of asylum seekers jumped from 3,650 in 2014, to 32,500 in 2015.

Nearly 20,500 Iraqis applied for an asylum, but authorities were only able to give decisions to 3,700.

In October, Finland tightened its criteria for granting asylum to Iraqi migrants, after deciding the security situation had eased in certain regions.

Two Mideast refugees arrested on terror charges appear in US courts

Two men born in Iraq who came to the U.S. as refugees had court dates in California and Texas Friday on terror-related charges, as investigators say one of the men wrote that he wanted to travel to Syria because he was "eager to see blood."

The judge in Texas ordered 24-year-old Omar Faraj Saeed Al Hardan to be held without bond as he faces charges of trying to provide support to the Islamic State group.

Al Hardan, who speaks Arabic and used an interpreter in court, said he lives in a Houston-area apartment, is married and has a child. He said he earns about $1,800 per month, but did not say his occupation.

He was the 80th person charged under federal law in an ISIS-related case since April 2013, and the first in 2016.

A criminal complaint unsealed Thursday accused 23-year-old Aws Mohammed Younis Al-Jayab, of Sacramento, Calif., of traveling to Syria to fight alongside terrorist organizations and lying to government investigators about it. He appeared in court Friday afternoon.

The court session lasted only six minutes, and Al-Jayab said nothing during the hearing.

He is due back in court on January 22nd for a preliminary examination and where he will hear formal charges.

Neither side spoke after the hearing but I captured a few seconds of sound from the defense attorney as he walked out.

In addition to writing that he was "eager to see blood," Al-Jayab also claimed that he wanted to learn "long range shooting," and that "God has facilitated" his travels, court documents show.

The documents did not indicate whether the two cases were connected. However, the affidavit says Al-Jayab communicated with an unnamed individual living in Texas in April 2013 to see if he could receive training in various weapons.

Both suspects are Palestinians born in Iraq, according to investigators.

Authorities say Al-Jayab, who came to the U.S. from Syria in October 2012, discussed plans to return to Syria and fight alongside terror groups with several other individuals on social media. The complaint says Al-Jayab was living in Wisconsin and Arizona during this period.

Social media and other accounts say that as soon as he arrived in the United States, he began saying he wanted to return to Syria to "work," which the FBI says is believed to be a reference "to assisting in and supporting violent jihad."

Al-Jayab criticized ISIS in several messages for killing Muslims, saying "If it weren't for the State's bloodletting, I would have been the first one to join it", according to the FBI, although he later described fighting alongside the group.

In one communication with the Texas contact, dubbed "Individual I", Al-Jayab described, during earlier fighting, emptying seven ammunition magazines from his assault rifle during a battle and executing three Syrian government soldiers.

According to the complaint, Al-Jayab traveled to Syria from Chicago via Turkey in November 2013. He remained in Syria until the following January and fought alongside several terror groups, including Ansar al-Islam, which merged with ISIS in 2014 after Al-Jayab had returned to the United States. He settled in Sacramento following his return to the U.S.

The complaint alleges that Al-Jayab lied about his travel and ties to terror groups in October 2014 when he was interviewed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. At one point, Al-Jayab allegedly claimed that he had traveled to Turkey to visit his grandmother.

U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner said in a statment that there was no indication Al-Jayab was planning any terror attacks in the U.S., though he represented a "potential safety threat."

Ben Galloway of the federal defender's office is Al-Jayab's attorney. He did not immediately return telephone and emailed messages Thursday. Al-Jayab faces up to eight years in prison if convicted of making a false statement involving international terrorism.

In the Texas case, the indictment of Hardan states that beginning in May 2014, Hardan "did unlawfully and knowingly attempt to provide material support and resources ... training, expert advice and assistance, to a foreign terrorist organization, namely the Islamic State of Iraq."

The indictment claims that Hardan, who arrived in the U.S. in 2009 and became a legal permanent resident in 2011, concealed his association with ISIS on his citizenship application in August 2014 and lied about receiving machine gun training when he was interviewed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

"Based on the facts, as we know them, today's action may have prevented a catastrophic terror related event in the making and saved countless lives," Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said in a statement.

"This is precisely why I called for a halt to refugees entering the U.S. from countries substantially controlled by terrorists," Texas Gov. Greg Abbott addedt. "I once again urge the President to halt the resettlement of these refugees in the United States until there is an effective vetting process that will ensure refugees do not compromise the safety of Americans and Texans."

Later Thursday, federal officials confirmed that three of Al-Jayab's relatives had been arrested in Milwaukee. They said those arrests were not related to national security and there was no threat to the public.

Migrants?  Refugees?  Seriously?  To refer to the Muslims streaming into Europe at this moments as either "migrants" or "refugees" is a bit like saying that Geoffrey Dahmer had an eating disorder.

The call to Muslims to invade and inhabit Europe went out, the plan is brilliant - you simply flood Europeans countries with walking bodies....no weapons, no suicide bombs, just walking and moving bodies.....MILLIONS and MILLIONS of them.

Isn't it rather funny that these "refugees" appear to NOT STAY in Turkey but decided to travel 1500 more miles?  Isn't it funny how most of these "refugees" are well-dressed and carrying the latest iPhone technology?  And hell, WHERE ARE ALL OF THE CHILDREN?

Migrants break out of Hungarian camp; ‘tens of millions’ may arrive in Europe


KOBANI/BUDAPEST A Syrian father on Friday buried his wife and two little boys, drowned as they tried to flee to Europe, while Hungary's right-wing leader told Europeans they risk becoming a minority on their own continent.

With desperation and anger deepening among migrants escaping conflict and poverty, hundreds broke out of a Hungarian camp and others set off on foot from Budapest, hoping to find sanctuary in northern Europe.

In neighbouring Austria, police said the driver of a truck found abandoned last week with the bodies of 71 migrants in the back was among a group of people arrested in Hungary.

Dozens more narrowly avoided death by using a crowbar to escape from another truck owned by the same Bulgarian man, they said.

More than 300,000 people have crossed to Europe by sea so far this year and more than 2,600 have died doing so. Many of those making the voyage are refugees from the civil war in Syria, now in its fifth year.

In the latest report of deaths at sea, about 30-40 people drowned in the Mediterranean off the coast of Libya after a dinghy carrying 120-140 Somalis, Sudanese and Nigerians deflated, causing panic on board, the International Organization for Migration reported.

In the Syrian town of Kobani, 3-year-old Aylan Kurdi was laid to rest alongside his mother and 5-year-old brother at the "Martyr's Cemetery" in the predominantly Kurdish community near the Turkish border.

Images of the tiny body of Aylan washed up on a beach near the Turkish resort of Bodrum gave a human face to the high death toll and prompted a global outpouring of sympathy this week. He drowned with his brother Galip, his mother and at least nine others while trying to cross in two small boats to the Greek island of Kos just a few kilometres away.

While pressure is rising on European governments to tackle the crisis more effectively, the boys' weeping father, Abdullah Kurdi, called on countries closer to home to act.

"I want Arab governments — not European countries — to see (what happened to) my children, and because of them to help people," he said in footage posted online by a local radio station.

The head of the United Nations' refugee agency, Antonio Guterres, called on Friday for the European Union to mobilise its "full force" to help the migrants.

Air for only 90 minutes

Hungary has become a major flashpoint of the crisis, as the main entry point for migrants who reach the EU overland across the Balkan peninsula, bound for richer countries further north and west, particularly Germany.

In Austria, police said the 71 dead migrants found alongside a motorway near the Hungarian border last week were Syrian, Iraqi and Afghan nationals, but not a single one of them had been identified. They included a baby girl, her brother, two other children and eight women.

There was enough air inside the truck for no more than 90 minutes and the people appeared to have slowly lost consciousness, suffocating before they crossed from Hungary. The driver was among five people arrested in Hungary, they added.

In southern Hungary, police gave chase as about 300 migrants fled the crowded reception centre in Roszke on the border with Serbia. Another 2,300 migrants still inside were threatening to break out too, and the MTI state news agency said dozens more had fled a second camp west of Budapest in the town of Bicske.

Hungary says it is enforcing EU rules that it must register all migrants caught crossing its borders, but thousands are refusing and demand they be allowed to continue their journey to western Europe. Germany has said it will let Syrians register for asylum regardless of where they entered the EU, causing confusion among neighbouring countries who have alternated between letting them through and stopping them.

In Bicske, around 500 migrants were spending a second day stranded on a train at the local railway station, refusing the demands of riot police that they disembark and go to a nearby migrant reception centre.

"No camp. No Hungary. Freedom train," someone had written with shaving foam on the side of the train. Sanitary conditions were deteriorating fast in the late summer heat.

The UN refugee chief's appeal contrasted with the tough line from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who warned about the consequences of "a mass inflow of people", which he said could possibly number tens of millions.

Guterres said the EU needed to help more migrants enter legally and provide about 200,000 relocation places, according to a preliminary estimate, as well as provide more support to countries under pressure such as Greece, Italy and Hungary.

"It now has no other choice but to mobilise full force around this crisis. The only way to solve this problem is for the Union and all member states to implement a common strategy, based on responsibility, solidarity and trust," Guterres said.

No other chance

Only a few days after Aylan Kurdi and his family set off on their fatal voyage, more Syrian refugees were planning the same crossing to the Greek island of Kos.

"We saw the picture of the baby, (but) we have no other chance," said 36-year old Abdulmenem Alsatouf, a father of three who once ran a supermarket in the Syrian city of Idlib.

Hungary's parliament passed a series of laws on Friday to control the flow of migrants into the country, giving police more authority and setting out strict punishments including prison terms for illegal border crossing.

The arrival of so many migrants has polarised Europe, causing outpourings of sympathy but also fuelling the rise of populist political parties who say the continent has no room for more people and could see its cultures diluted.

"The reality is that Europe is threatened by a mass inflow of people. Many tens of millions of people could come to Europe," Orban said before Hungary's new laws were passed.

"Now we talk about hundreds of thousands but next year we will talk about millions and there is no end to this."

"All of a sudden we will see that we are in a minority in our own continent," Orban told public radio.

With the pressure growing, British Prime Minister David Cameron said his country would take "thousands more" refugees from Syria. Until now, Britain has taken in only comparatively small numbers of Syrian refugees, drawing criticism at home and aboard.
