The RCMP and CSIS won’t update Canadians about the number of radicals they’re tracking. It could be decreasing. It could be increasing. They won’t say.

This is no doubt cold comfort for people wondering just how safe their country is following the Paris attacks. After all, ISIS has mentioned Canada as a target.

As I reported Monday, the latest issue of the terror group’s promotional magazine reiterated calls for adherents to attack Western countries, including Canada.

At a press conference last Wednesday, neither RCMP commissioner Bob Paulson nor CSIS director Michel Coulombe gave updated numbers to reporters. Sun Media received the same response to requests made Monday.

In October 2014, Coulombe revealed to a Senate committee that there were 130 to 145 Canadians overseas engaged in terror.

Around the same time, the RCMP revealed they were watching 90 people who were either planning to go abroad for terror purposes or had already returned.

Then this past April, Coulombe again appeared before senators addressing the issue: “That overall number is slowly increasing, with the sharpest increase in Iraq and Syria. In fact, over the last three or four months, we have probably seen an increase of 50% in the number of people who have left for Iraq and Syria.”

Clearly a lot can happen over the course of a few months. The tally could be completely different now, at a time when Canadians could certainly do with assurances and more information.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale’s office said they wouldn’t comment on an operational matter.

But Erin O’Toole, the public safety critic, thinks the information should be disclosed.

“I think the numbers should be shared so that people know that this is a real phenomenon,” the Conservative MP said in a phone interview.

O’Toole added it’s especially important to know these numbers because Canadian Forces members abroad may end up engaging with these radicals: “We’re talking a military deployment to a region where there are actually Canadians on the ground as enemy combatants.”

What justification do our agencies have for not revealing this information?

“The number of people currently under investigation does not provide a comprehensive picture of the threat, and therefore the RCMP does not provide an updated number for now,” RCMP spokesman Sgt. Harold Pfleiderer explained to me Monday, via e-mail. “Most important is that the RCMP is always re-evaluating these files to ensure that they are prioritized according to risk.”

Senator Daniel Lang, chairman of the Senate committee on national security and defence, doesn’t agree with such rationales. A major report on countering terrorism he co-authored recommends keeping the public regularly up to speed.

The report, released in July, says the public should be provided with “clear, quantitative, and unambiguous” information. That’s not what CSIS and the RCMP currently offer.

“We feel Canadians should be updated on a regular basis in respect to the threats Canada is facing,”

Lang, Conservative senator for the Yukon, explained via phone: “I don’t think it’s too much to ask because there is updating done in other countries and there’s no reason it shouldn’t be done here.”

This past weekend, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls explained to his country that there are over 10,000 people on their country’s list of radicals who are considered a threat to national security.

So far, the only assurances concerned Canadians have received from their own government and security services are the equivalent of “Relax, we’re taking care of it.” They’re not the most relaxing words.

The Liberal government should consider adopting the Senate report’s recommendations on proactive disclosure. A little information will go a long way in the eyes of the public.

Canadian couple cancel wedding to donate money to help Syrian refugees

There can only be one thing worse than trying to get your head around this couple of morons to the North and that would be if you were the actual offspring of these rocket scientists.

Canadian couple cancel wedding to donate money to help Syrian refugees

A couple have cancelled their expensive wedding to donate money to help the plight of Syrian refugees settling in their country.

Canadians Samantha Jackson and Farzin Yousef decided to give the cash they would have spent on their nuptials to charity after being moved by the photo of Aylan Kurdi, the three-year-old Syrian boy found dead on a Turkish beach in September.

The couple, who got engaged in the summer of 2014, had already booked the venue, hired a caterer and drawn up a guest list of 130 people. But instead of going through with lavish wedding, they cancelled it all and had a small reception at Toronto's City Hall last month.

Speaking to ABC News, Mrs Jackson said: "We were in the midst of wedding planning in September when that devastating photo of 3-year-old Aylan Kurdi found on a beach came out.

"Like so many other people, we became acutely aware of how bad the situation was getting and how important it was to act and do something positive, so we cancelled the wedding and redirected the funds."

The couple volunteer for Ryerson University Lifeline Syria Challenge, which has been raising money to help cover essential costs for Syrian families resettling in the area. So far the newlyweds have raised $17,500 towards the cause.


Mrs Jackson added: "Our family and friends were absolutely thrilled and supportive... and rather than giving the traditional gift, they made donations to help fund our sponsorship of a Syrian refugee family."


"Our wedding was perfect...and it was definitely the perfect way to start our marriage."

Finland demonstrators attack refugees with stones and fireworks

HELSINKI: Demonstrators threw stones and launched fireworks at a bus full of asylum seekers arriving at a reception centre in Lahti in southern Finland, late on Thursday, Finnish media reported on Friday.

Between 30 and 40 demonstrators, one in a white robe like those worn by the white supremacist Ku Klux Klan in the United States, waved the Finnish flag and shouted abuse at the bus.

Some demonstrators also hurled stones and let off fireworks at the vehicle carrying 40 asylum seekers, including several young children, Finnish television YLE said.

Meanwhile, a petrol bomb was thrown at another reception centre in Kouvola, also in southern Finland, police said. No one was known to be hurt in the incidents.

"The Finnish government strongly condemns last night's racist protests against asylum seekers who had entered the country," the government said in a statement. "Violence or the threat of violence is always to be condemned."

Prime Minister Juha Sipila this month offered to take in refugees at his home, a move that attracted international attention but also criticism in Finland.

"Sipila's noble-minded gesture was like a Christmas gift for human traffickers and refugees. The news about open doors in Finland have sent many young men on a journey towards the promised land," Mika Niikko, a deputy from anti-immigrant party The Finns, said last week in a statement.

So far this year more than 13,000 asylum seekers, most of them from Iraq, have come to Finland, compared to just 3,600 in the whole of last year.

In recent days, about 500 refugees per day have crossed the Finnish land border in Tornio, near the Arctic Circle, after a long journey through Sweden.

The Finnish government has launched random border checks and identity checks around the country amid the influx of refugees.

Finland was the only European Union state to abstain from this week's vote about relocating asylum seekers across the member countries. It accepted its 2 per cent share of 120,000 asylum seekers in question but said it was opposed to a mandatory quota system.

EU unveils 'bold' plan to share 160,000 refugees

STRASBOURG (France): EU Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker unveiled major plans today to force the bloc to share 160,000 refugees and ease the pressure on border states from the worst migration crisis since World War II.

With Greece and Hungary struggling to cope, Juncker urged Europe to look to its history and not be afraid of his "bold" proposals for compulsory quotas for refugees fleeing conflict in Syria and elsewhere.

But German chancellor Angela Merkel -- whose country expects 800,000 asylum claims this year and has said it could take half a million annually over several years -- urged Europe to go further, claiming binding quotas were the only way to ensure a "fair" and proportionate sharing of the burden.

The migrants' plight has touched hearts around the world, spurred especially by pictures last week of three-year-old Syrian Aylan Kurdi, whose lifeless body washed up on a Turkish beach.

In response to appeals for help from an increasingly-strained Europe, Australia said it would take an additional 12,000 refugees from the Syria and Iraq conflicts and several South American countries also agreed to help.

"Now is not the time to take fright, it is time for bold, determined action for the European Union," Juncker said in his first EU State of the Union speech to the European parliament in Strasbourg.

But he also warned member states against making religious distinctions when deciding to admit refugees.

Mandatory quotas have faced stiff opposition, especially from eastern EU states such as Hungary, which is on the front line of Europe's largest migrant wave in 70 years.

"We need a binding agreement on the binding distribution of refugees according to fair criteria between member states," Merkel told the German parliament.

"We cannot just fix a ceiling and say I don't care about anything above that."

As Merkel and Juncker were speaking, at least 400 migrants broke through police lines at the flashpoint town of Roszke on Hungary's southern border with Serbia, yelling "No camp!" as they scattered all directions, AFP correspondents said.

Some ran towards a nearby motorway heading to Budapest which police then closed in the latest confrontation with thousands of migrants pouring across the frontier.

"We don't want to live any longer in the camps in Hungary or elsewhere, the conditions are horrible. It's too cold and everything is dirty, and it smells bad," said a young man from Damascus.

A Hungarian TV camerawoman was fired Tuesday after footage appeared to show her kicking migrants, including children, as they ran away from a police line during disturbances at Roszke.

Juncker urged EU interior ministers, who are meeting next Monday, to back his new plan for the relocation of 120,000 refugees in Hungary, Greece, and Italy, and a plan first floated in May to relocate 40,000 others in Italy and Greece.

Denmark posts anti-refugee ads in Lebanese newspapers

The Danish government has published advertisements in four Lebanese newspapers Monday that discourage refugees from travelling to Denmark.

The advertisements, published in Arabic and English, detail Denmark’s new strict laws regarding refugees and explain why the country could be an undesirable destination for them, U.S. daily The Washington Post reported.

The adverts refer to recent legislation by the government, cutting social benefits for newly arrived refugees by 50 percent. It also goes onto say foreigners that are allowed a temporary stay in Denmark cannot bring in family members living abroad.

“Foreign nationals granted temporary protection in Denmark will not have the right to bring family members to Denmark during the first year,” said the commercials, placed by Denmark’s Ministry of Immigration, Integration & Housing.

The move seems to reflect the tough stance Denmark’s new right-leaning government has taken on immigration laws. It also highlights the divisions on how European countries are trying to handle the migrant crisis.

Denmark’s stance seems to sharply contradict that of Germany, Sweden, Greece and the UK, where governments have pledged to take in more refugees feeling conflict areas.

Some Danish politicians have said they are “ashamed” of the campaign.

“This must be the worst timing for an advert in the history of the world,” Uffe Elbaek, leader of Denmark’s leftwing Alternative party, said in a statement.

The Danish campaign comes days after the world was left outraged by the death of a Syrian child - Aylan - who drowned off the Turkish coast as he traveled with his father, mother and brother as they attempted to sail from Turkey having fled their war-torn country.

As the migrant-train standoff entered its second day in Hungary, with thousands of mostly Syrian refugees seeking passage to Germany, it’s time the West recognized this shift in Muslim populations for what it is, say American activists who have been warning of a “fifth column” for years.

Author Robert Spencer wrote Sept. 4 in Front Page Magazine, “This is no longer just a ‘refugee crisis.’ This is a hijrah.”

Hijrah is the Islamic doctrine of migration, which is a form of stealth jihad.

“To emigrate in the cause of Allah – that is, to move to a new land in order to bring Islam there, is considered in Islam to be a highly meritorious act,” Spencer wrote. He cited the following Quranic text:

“And whoever emigrates for the cause of Allah will find on the earth many locations and abundance,” says the Quran. “And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allah and His Messenger and then death overtakes him, his reward has already become incumbent upon Allah. And Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful” (Quran 4:100).

And now, looking at Europe and America, a migration invasion of a much greater magnitude is underway.

Evidence of that invasion came in February when an ISIS operative confirmed what many already suspected – the Islamic State is using the refugee crisis to form a fifth column of Muslim fighters inside Western nations.

The Syrian operative claimed more than 4,000 trained ISIS gunmen have already been smuggled into Europe – hidden among innocent refugees, reported the Express, a British newspaper.

Hungary’s prime minister, Victor Orban, was lampooned in the European media Thursday for writing an op-ed in which he stated Hungary was blocking the Muslim migrants to preserve its Christian heritage.

But more European leaders should be as astute as Orban, says Clare Lopez, a senior Middle East analyst for the Center for Security Policy.

“Today, it is the nation-state system and any concept of national sovereignty that is under concerted attack by the forces of the global jihad movement,” Lopez told WND. “Jihad is not only a violent phenomenon but can be pursued by many other means, including hijra.”

The ISIS smuggler, in his 30s with a neatly trimmed black beard, revealed to BuzzFeed that the ongoing clandestine operation has been a “complete success.”

“Just wait,” he smiled. “It’s our dream that there should be a caliphate not only in Syria but in all the world and we will have it soon, God willing.”

“They are going like refugees,” he explained. “Others just go to Europe to be ready.”

The Islamic State operative spoke exclusively to BuzzFeed on the condition of anonymity and is believed to be the first to confirm plans to infiltrate Western countries, although similar statements have been made through unconfirmed ISIS Twitter accounts.

ISIS is believed to be actively smuggling covert gunmen across the 565-mile Turkish border and on to wealthier European nations, the smuggler told BuzzFeed.

He said ISIS now has more than 4,000 fighters “ready” throughout the European Union.

ISIS operatives are taking advantage of Western nations’ generosity toward refugees to infiltrate Europe, he said.

The ISIS fighters use local smugglers to blend in and travel within the ranks of a tidal wave of illegal migrants flooding into Europe, both by boat from North Africa and on land through Hungary and Austria into Germany, Belgium and Sweden.

Persecuted Christians stay behind

More than 1.5 million have migrated into Turkey alone, with millions more refugees in Lebanon, Jordan and outside their homes in Syria itself. Almost all of the migrants flooding into Europe are Muslims.

Most of the Christians have been hiding in churches and homes in the Middle East, afraid to venture to the United Nations refugee camps, which tend to be managed by Muslims, WND has previously reported.

“The Christians are afraid to venture into these camps, because they believe they will be harmed” said George Marlin of Aid to the Church in Need, a Catholic group that is sending aid to persecuted Christians in the Middle East.

From Turkish cities such as Izmir and Mersin, the Muslim refugees venture across the Mediterranean aiming for Italy, the smuggler said.

Then the majority head for the most welcoming nations – Sweden and Germany – turning themselves over to authorities and appealing for asylum.

Plans to conquer Europe from within

The jihadist smuggler said ISIS has laid ambitious plans for the future of Europe.

“It’s our dream that there should be a caliphate not only in Syria but in all the world,” he said, “and we will have it soon, God willing.”

“There are some things I’m allowed to tell you and some things I’m not,” he said.

The revelation came just days after a spokesperson for Islamic State called on Muslims in the West to carry out terror attacks.

The jihadist told Western followers if they had the opportunity to “shed a drop of blood” in Western countries – then they should do so.

Miliband demands America take more refugees

As the standoff in Hungary was brought to the fore of Western media attention this week, an international human rights organization publicly shamed the United States for not doing more to solve the refugee crisis driven by civil war in Syria.

The U.S. has agreed to take up to 8,000 Syrians, but that’s not nearly enough, according to the International Rescue Committee.

David Miliband, CEO of the New York City-based IRC, demanded in a press release on its website that the U.S. accept 65,000 Syrian refugees by the end of President Obama’s term in office. Miliband’s organization made no mention of the persecuted Christians in Syria.

FBI counter-terrorism expert Michael Steinbach told Congress in February it has no reliable way of vetting the Syrian refugees and FBI Director James Comey told Congress the agency already has its hands full with active ISIS investigations in all 50 states.

Yet the call for the U.S. to take more Syrian refugees has been incessant since last year, with the most public demands coming from Miliband’s organization as well as from the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service and the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, which started out as a rescue mission for persecuted Jews but now relocates mostly Muslims to the U.S.

The Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service issued an alert to its supporters this week asking them to pressure the Obama administration to increase the number of foreign refugees accepted into the U.S. from 70,000 in 2015 to 200,000 in 2016. LIRS wants Obama to bring in 100,000 from Syria alone.

Like the IRC and the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, the Lutheran group gets paid by the federal government to resettle refugees in U.S. cities and towns.

Sign the national petition telling Congress to stop all refugee resettlements unless first approved by the local council of the receiving community.

ISIS leader praises terror attacks on West

ISIS, meanwhile, continues to take advantage of Western blind spots, where mere mention of the word “refugee” tugs at the heartstrings of well-meaning Christians and Jews.

ISIS spokesman Abu Mohammed al-Adnani this week praised the recent terror attacks in Australia, Belgium and France.

“We repeat our call to Muslims in Europe, the infidel West, and everywhere to target the Crusaders in their home countries and wherever they find them,” he said.

“We will be enemies, in front of God, to any Muslim who can shed a drop of blood of a Crusader and abstains from doing that with a bomb, bullet, knife, car, rock or even a kick or a punch.”

A Turkish foreign ministry official said authorities were actively working to clamp down on refugee-smuggling.

He said since Europe accepts few refugees through legal channels, the demand for smuggling has increased.

“Illegal migration has been an important issue and Turkey is effectively fighting against it,” the official, who declined to be named, confirmed.

“Of course the most effective way to put an end to all these problems would be immediate action by the international community to solve the Syrian conflict.”

In other refugee news Friday:

CNN reported that people in the throng said they had decided to set out on foot because they “simply could not wait in Keleti station any longer for Europe’s politicians to make decisions” – and that they’d walk all the way to Germany if they had to. The Austrian capital, Vienna, is about 250 kilometers (155 miles) from Budapest.
Britain, meanwhile, announced will accept “thousands more” of the refugees, CNN reported.
And Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orban, was taking heat in the media for his comments Thursday that Muslim migrants must be blocked to “keep Hungary Christian,” the New York Times reported.
Russia’s Putin and Turkey’s Erdogan said the West was to blame for creating the refugee crisis in the first place, through its fomenting of civil war against Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.
