Iran: MP's Revile FM for 'Never Again' Remarks on Holocaust

Iranian lawmakers are furious at their foreign minister Mohammad Zarif for saying that the Holocaust should 'never happen again.'

A petition signed by 70 Iranian lawmakers has been sent to the Iran’s foreign ministry demanding that Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif be questioned for statements he made about the Holocaust and a possible Iranian recognition of Israel as a legitimate state.

The lawmakers have specifically demanded an answer to their question: "What is the reason for the passivity in your views about the issue of the illegitimate Israeli regime and the Holocaust?"

In an interview given in early February to a German TV channel, Zarif said that the Holocaust should "never happen again" and also indicated that Iran could recognize the state of Israel in the event of a peace deal being reached with the Palestinians.

In a statement on Iranian Press TV, Iranian lawmaker Mohammad Javad Karimi Qoddousi, who is on the committee, said, “The question has been sent to the Foreign Ministry, and it will be reviewed in the first session of the National Security [and Foreign Policy] Committee of Majlis.”

Iranian government officials have denied the Holocaust many times in the past, and have called for Israel to be "wiped off the map."

Meanwhile, a new animated film began running on Iranian websites this week depicting how Iran would react to an America or Israeli strike on its nuclear installations. The movie sets up the following scene: America realizes that Iran is not intending to stop any of its nuclear development or activity and decides to attack to prevent Iran from getting the bomb.

The film then shows American and Israeli jets beginning to swoop down on Iran, whose military ultimately beats them back and then goes on the attack.

The movie opens with a screenshot of the word “Holocaust” with the Jewish Star of David underneath it and ends with a nuclear explosion filling the screen.

Just last week, the Clarion Project reported that on Feb. 7, Iranian government-controlled Press TV aired a documentary featured threats from the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and computer-simulated attacks on American and Israeli targets.

The next day, a senior Iranian naval commander revealed that Iranian warships, initially sent on their first trip to the Atlantic Ocean in January, will now travel close to U.S. maritime borders.
