America's 'Dunblane Massacre' Happens Today in Connecticut Shooting...Confiscation of America's Guns Begins Tomorrow

This article is in no way intended to minimize the tragedy of today's mass shooting at the elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut and the horrific loss of innocent lives as reported here by Reuters:

(Reuters) - At least 27 people, including 18 children, were killed on Friday when at least one shooter opened fire at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, CBS News reported, citing unnamed officials.

If confirmed, it would be one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history. The holiday season tragedy follows a series of shooting rampages in the United States this year that have killed multiple victims, and it was certain to revive a debate about U.S. gun laws.

The principal and school psychologist were among the dead, CNN said. Witnesses reported hearing dozens of shots with some saying as many as 100 were fired.

The suspected shooter, 24, was armed with four weapons and wearing a bullet-proof vest, WABC reported.

There were unconfirmed reports of a second shooter.

But what I want to point out is that a headline has also appeared today that I knew would be coming and America best brace itself for the biggest push for a complete ban on guns in this country.  Here's the other headline from a report at IBTimes:

Connecticut School Shootings Recall 1996 Dunblane Horror In Scotland

From that article, we see some of the details of what happened back in 1996 in Scotland:

In any case, the horrific mass murder of schoolchildren brings to mind the tragedy that occurred in Dunblane, Scotland in March 1996.

A gunman named walked into the school gym at the Dunblane Primary School in the morning and sprayed bullets from four weapons at random, killing 16 children and their teacher. One of the twelve other children who were wounded later died in hospital.

One student who survived the carnage later told UK media: "We heard these gunshots from the gym and looked round and thought he must be firing at a target or something then he came out through a fire exit and started firing at our huts and we were all petrified."

Most of the child victims were only five or six years old.

Here is what I'm trying to draw together for you - today's incident in Newtown, Connecticut WILL BE America's Dunblane Massacre.  The Dunblane Primary School Massacre in Scotland brought such emotional reaction to the people of Great Britain that it brought about the most sweeping gun control action that the free world has ever seen as Great Britain subsequently outlawed all handgun ownership in the country.  Years earlier, another mass shooting had brought the elimination of ownership of semi-automatic weapons and rifles.

Yes, we sit now on the head of a pin in America and I want all of my fellow gun owners in this country to be damned prepared - not just for the huge push to ban guns in America by our usual enemies on the Left but be prepared for an avalanche of emotion from all of America.

At the same time, someone needs to get off of their ass on the gun ownership side of things and start to do some real investigation of just why the number of mass shootings in America has spiked so incredibly under Barack Obama...why all of these shooters are so young....why many of these shootings make no sense.  I want to know the links between all of these shootings because yes, I'll say it because no one else will....this all reeks to me as a "crisis" manufactured for a specific goal to be met.

UPDATE:

And so it begins....

At least 27, including 18 children, dead in Connecticut school shooting: report

Another person was being held in police custody after he was detained in the woods near the school wearing camouflage pants, CBS reported.

Sandy Hook Elementary School teaches children from kindergarten through fourth grade - roughly ages 5 to 10.

"It was horrendous," said parent Brenda Lebinski, who rushed to the school where her daughter is in the third grade. "Everyone was in hysterics - parents, students. There were kids coming out of the school bloodied. I don't know if they were shot, but they were bloodied."

Television images showed police and ambulances at the scene, and parents rushing toward the school. Parents were seen reuniting with their children and taking them home.

"This is going to be bad," a state official told Reuters, requesting anonymity because the scope of the tragedy remained uncertain.

President Barack Obama was notified and would receive regular updates throughout the day, White House spokesman Jay Carney said.

"We're still waiting for more information about the incident in Connecticut," Carney said when asked about the president's reaction to it.

Carney called the event "tragic" and said there would be time later for a discussion of policy implications.

Obama remains committed to trying to renew a ban on assault weapons, Carney said.

All Newtown schools were placed in lockdown after the shooting, the Newtown Public School District said.

Lebinski said a mother who was at the school during the shooting told her a "masked man" entered the principal's office and may have shot the principal. Lebinski, who is friends with the mother who was at the school, said the principal was "severely injured."

Lebinski's daughter's teacher "immediately locked the door to the classroom and put all the kids in the corner of the room."

Danbury Hospital, about 11 miles west of the school, had received three patients from the scene, a hospital spokeswoman told NBC Connecticut. The mayor of Danbury, Mark Boughton, told MSNBC: "They are very serious injuries."

A girl interviewed by NBC Connecticut described hearing seven loud "booms" as she was in gym class. Other children began crying and teachers moved the students to a nearby office, she said.

"A police officer came in and told us to run outside and so we did," the unidentified girl said on camera.

One child was carried from Sandy Hook Elementary School by a police officer, and the child appeared to have been wounded, the town's weekly newspaper, the Newtown Bee, said on its website.

Connecticut State Police said its officers were at the scene with local police but provided no additional details. The emergency call to police occurred at 9:41 a.m., state police said.

Newtown, with a population about 27,000, is in northern Fairfield County, about 45 miles southwest of Hartford and 80 miles northeast of New York City.

Sandy Hook is one of four elementary schools in the district.

The United States has experienced a number of mass shooting rampages this year, most recently in Oregon, where a gunman opened fire at a shopping mall on Tuesday, killing two people and then himself.

The deadliest attack came in July at a midnight screening of a Batman film in Colorado that killed 12 people and wounded 58.

It is not the guns that caused this. In fact the guns belonged to the madman's mother and not him.

It is the lack of G-d in our land that did this. The lack of moral values. The lack of right and wrong taught to our children.

I wonder if this madman would have murdered so many children if he had been taken to church or temple?

Today in China a similar madman killed 22 children at their school. China has a no gun policy for its people. This madman used a knife. I guess the left will ban knives after they get rid of our guns.

This happened and will hapopen again. When teh government gets it through its head that a few armed and trained teachers could have ebnded thids. Instead it does not allow fiorearms to be carried within a thouisand ft of teh school. The peretrator knew his victims would disarmed just the way he wanted them. Push tom get armed teachers not all of them but at least a few. This did not have to happen

If the guy in China had a bushmaster they'd have 22 dead kids instead of injured. I'm so tired of NRA gun nuts arguments. They are so counter productive. "If everyone had a gun they'd shoot the bad guy with the gun." Yeah sure not everyone is John McClane. Or my favorite: "Guns are for citizens to fight the tyrrany of the Federal Government." The founding fathers wrote the second amendment at a time when citizens could stand up to a tyrannical government with their private weapons and with some measurable chance of victory. I'd like to see NRA members taking on the US military with just their assault rifles that they so covetously guard so much. Lets see if they win against M1a1 Abrams Tanks and Apaches. Nobody is taking away your guns Holger. You've proclaimed that before. In 24 hours UN troops would disarm American citizens of their god given right to assault rifles. Or some nonsense like that. With your track record on predictions you could rival Pat Robertson.

Canadians have just as many guns as Americans. Why is their murder rate much lower? Apart from the fact that they have a better standard of living, which plays a big role in societal interactions. They have much more stringent background checks. I realize there is no silver bullet solution to this. But If certain reforms are implemented that could lower the murdet by gun rate then why not?

Why not have stricter background checks? Why do we need to own semi- automatic and automatic rifles? Why can't a hand gun be sufficient enough to protect your home? You think your house is going to get assaulted like Tony Montana's?

I mean all we're doing is letting these horrible acts occur and when folks call for a look into this widening epidemic conservatives scream and holler about UN conspiracies, states rights and other nonsense aimed at keeping the status quo intact, not knowing that keeping the status quo not only creates more future victims but insults the memory of those that passed away during these attacks.

When the American founding fathers enshrined the right to bear arms, firearms took 30 seconds to one minute to reload a single shot. Today, semi-automatic pistols fire as fast as you can pull the trigger. Aren't laws meant to be updated to reflect modern realities? There will always be sick people, but sick people getting their hands on glocks and sig sauers shouldn't be allowed to happen. If this shooter had gotten a fully automatic weapon, it could have been so much worse.

Then again a crazy guy with some knowledge can make an explosive out of household chemicals. Do we ban household chemicals too?

For the record I don't own a Glock, but looking to get one. I'm a single woman who lives alone. I would rather be safe then dead.

Hey I own a gun too. But not assault rifles, tactical gear and other assorted weapons like some nuts do. I've seen them. All that's missing is a tin foil hat.

All I'm saying is.... Make background checks more stringent. Stop the selling of semi automatic or automatic assault rifles. You don't need them for hunting.

Yeah and how many people have you seen get killed by elaborate home made bombs? Constructed from scratch with sime household chemicals/ingredients? Tyler Durden is a fictional character. People with that kind of knowledge that go berserk are few and far in between. Also with our children's ranking in terms of math and science, I wouldn't worry too much about bomb making geniuses out there.

Yes nutsjobs will always find ways to kill people. But is it such a bad thing to deprive them of the most efficient way? They have a goal in mind, usually as many casualties as possible. Maybe a lack of easy access to guns might dissuade them? Not likely but an easy way to kill people can encourage or embolden someone. Guns are an easy way. Of course in their own stress and frustration these people will use more crude methods but the latter might not cost as many lives.

I don't know. It's not just the guns, I know that for sure. Maybe it's in our culture. Something we're not picking up in terms of why these mass shootings occurr.

Why do other industrialized nations have much lower violent crime rates than us?

Japan: 39 (0.030/100,000)
Australia: 65 (0.292/100,000)
United Kingdom: 68 (0.109/100,000)
Canada: 165 (0.484/100,000)
France: 255 (0.389/100,000)
Germany: 381 (0.466/100,000)
United States: 11,127 (3.601/100,000)

Are they doing something right that we are not? Are they less stressed than us? Do they have more leisure time to cool off? Stress can be a powerful weapon. Not all people that go on a rampage are crazy. Some are just working stiffs that get saddled and burdened with stress that they snap.

Here is one question:

If the son had such problems (Autism, developmental problems) why wasn't her guns under lock and key?

A gun safe would have kept this son out of her guns and while he would have used a knife, he might not have.

BTW: Israel has high "ownership" of guns. You will find them everywhere. Just check out this picture:

http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll62/Findalis/israeli-soldier.jpg

Yet they have a very low murder by gun rate. Guns are everywhere, literally.

Switzerland has a large gun ownership and low gun murder rate. Perhaps it is not guns but Morality and G-d.

Funny you should mention God Findalis. Countries like Canada, Switzerland and even Israel are highly secular. And yet their murder rate is quite low. The level of violence in Israel should be a special case since they are pretty much in perpetual war. On the other hand, countries that are highly religious the murder rate is very high. Granted a lot of the murdering is done by the governments in those nations. So the whole lack of God in our classrooms as Mike Huckabee stated is flawed. Switzerland has a lot of guns because their soldiers get to take their guns home. The same thing with Estonia I think. And Estonia has 60%+ of the population professing Atheism or Agnosticism. So no I don't think it's lack of a belief in God that is the core issue at hand. We've all seen what "faith" can do to people. Some of the most horrific crimes since the end of the Cold War(I'm going to count the Cold War as a secular conflict) have been perpetrated by those claiming a strong belief in God, which ever God. The KKK also claimed their ideological platform was based on God and Morality. Yet their crimes against eqality and general community peace belies their claims.

P.S. Thanks for that awesome photo. Haha, so HOT! I've always had a thing for hot Israeli female soldiers.

Countries like Canada, Switzerland and even Israel are highly secular.

But also teach morality. We've taken any morality out of our nation. Bring it back either with religion or in a secular way.

For the record, even secular schools in Israel teach Torah, Pentatorah and Talmud. Thus they teach morality. Plus History and Battle tactics.

Anonymous said...

Of course we've taken morality out. Greed has done that to us. In the name of profits we have allowed crap on Tv. But if the government moved against say Jersey Shore and other mind destroying shows on Tv you'd have republicans yelling "Socialism" and "Government Take Over." Those other countries have taken the tough decisions. Why haven't we? Well a PC culture for one and again our Creed of Greed. Even our Churches preach the opposite of Jesus' message: Amass wealth, buy McMansions and show off your new car at Sunday service. Whatever happened to Compassionate Conservatism? Greed has made us shortsighted. Those other countries have long term social plans, we don't. We have Tv ratings and the next celebrity scandal.

I'd rather have secular morality. Preach the Golden Rule. If they're teaching religious courses in Israel then they really must be cherry picking their quotes. There's some decidedly immoral acts in the Old Testament that pass of as morality.

Findalis said...

Funny how you mention the Golden Rule. It is from Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

In Israel the bible is taught as both a history and a morality text. And while there are some very raunchy passages, they come with a moral ending.

Greed has destroyed the ideals of the nation, but the ripping of morality has done more harm. Nothing is morally wrong. Anything goes. There is no shame. Illegitimacy is acceptable, in some places lauded. Nudity and obscenities are applauded. And we wonder why people have no moral compass.

I don't care how a person gets the moral compass, whether by secular or religious means, but they need one.

Greed is THE gate opener for other societal ills. Immorality stems from Greed. If you are willing to cheat and steal to get more money, if you are willing to have an inhuman insatiability for material wealth then you are willing to committ the most debauched acts known to mankind. Jesus did not attack nudists at his temple, but money changers instead. He protected Mary Magdalene a prostitute, but lashed against the money changers. Sodom and Gommorrah started their downward spiral with material greed. Greed is the source of all problems. Greed is what makes people into liars, cheats and even murderers. Thou shalt not Covet, right? Well today people go farther than just coveting.

Raunchy passages? I'm talking about downright executions for frivolous offenses. That's not morality for me. That's just a bunch of goat herders drunk with their own power and laying down a morbid kind of morality.

I think the Golden Rule is older than the Old Testament. It dates back to Buddhism.

The post below mine eludes that Canada has as many guns as America does. That is total hogwash and BS we do not have any as near. America has tens times more we have ten times less than America because we have ten times less people such stupid comparison. We have gun control it has not stopped one madman at all anywhere from committing attoricties ever so learn from that. What it does do is violate 17 areas of the individuals rights and freedoms guaranteed under teh law.

everyone thionks more gun lawas will be the answer. Try thios pout. we had several school shootings laws were not in place that would have prevented any of them such as shall carry laws . Polioce were like well trained dogs and only xcame when they were called. Both our massacres in school could have been prevented if a few good teachers were armed or if armed security was on premise. But government said no. Reality is this. The government of canada were directly responsible for teh unarmed victims and thus their deaths as if they pulled the trigger themselves. The deranged gunman was simnply teh vehicle who delivered death to the people the government would not allow to study in safety. Why do we have this. Liberasls get people killed and then they want to target guns after wards to cover their tracks so people will blame guns. Politicians created this mess, let them know and dont let them off the hook. Any other talk about guns killing people is teh defence of teh moron. Put the blame exactly where it belongs on teh government that keeps you unarmed and afraid and teh politicians who back teh play. Read Unintended consequences by John Ross for a clear view of how this was allowed to happen

I think the post above needs to learn to spell first then he may have an idea on what he's talking about.
Guns dont kill people... really??? Are people still using that one???

If everyone had a gun then he wouldn't be able to do what he did... maybe not, but I can guarantee that if everyone had a gun then it wouldn't be one person doing what was done, it would be a lot of people shooting off at random instances in the name of "protecting oneself".
Seriously - we all know America has a problem but I didn't think you were really this stupid!!!
And please leave God out of the argument - most people have been using him in the name of mercy killings and brutal wars for thousands of years!
