IDF in Gaza: Updated

Well, I've been trying to get to The Jerusalem Post for about a half an hour and the site is overloaded still so I'll wing it with some updated items from The Muqata:

3:27 AM Fighting at eastern Gaza border including Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahiya. Grenades thrown at IDF soldiers.IDF takes control of Hamas TV station, broadcasting message to Gaza residents not to be shields for the Hamas gunmen.

6:30 AM Golani soldier single-handedly foils kidnapping attempt in a tunnel before rejoining with IDF forces during the night. B'H. Once again, do not trust reports put out by Hamas of kidnappings (latest claim was that they kidnapped two soldiers). The IDF dismisses those claims and notes that they would report any kidnappings to the public in a proper and timely manner.Bunkers and tunnels entrances are reported to be built right inside civilian homes!

10:07 AM Security sources report that 80 terrorists killed so far in ground action.
Also, there's a bit of an update at CNN regarding IDF activities in the last 12 hours:

Thirty targets were hit overnight in Gaza, according to the Israeli military, including an underground munitions bunker and what it said was a mosque that was used to store a large amount of weapons. A number of militants are known to have been killed when a rocket launcher was destroyed, a military spokesman said, but no number was given. Israel also hit a suspected rocket launcher and anti-aircraft emplacement.
Israel Defense Forces also said it targeted tunnels that Hamas has used for moving weapons under the border and into Gaza from Egypt. The Israeli navy also shelled targets in Gaza. But observers along Gaza's frontier with Israel saw at least one rocket strike inside Israeli territory Monday morning.

The Israeli blackout of news in Gaza and tight rein on info on Israeli television has really kept a lot of us in the dark but perhaps that also helps the cause of keeping the intolerable international reports of pali propaganda from the world stage.

A few points that I'd like to make:

1. Even with IDF forces firmly entrenched and with Gaza basically sliced up into three sections by IDF troops and tanks, the rockets from Hamas still continue to pound into Israel.

2. Unless Israel is fudging a bit on figures, the fact that only 80-100 Hamas being killed to this point seems extremely low...especially considering that close to 50 IDF soldiers have been injured. I'm only talking about the Hamas being killed since the ground invasion.

3. It's my gut feeling that the IDF is finding out that Hamas has centralized more in the inner cities than they probably had planned on - I'm fearful that the Israelis are tentative about what civilian casualties would mount to with a serious push into these inner city neighborhoods.

Which leads me to this - at what point in time is the world going to understand that in order to fully engage terrorism, there is going to be a huge price to pay. I'm talking about the civilians used by terrorists as human shields. This is nothing new to Hamas, hell...this is how these sissies fight - they've done it since they reared their ugly heads. But we have also seen it to a great extent in the War in Afghanistan. We've seen videos of AH-64's hovering over Taliban compounds FULL of Taliban who have placed children at doorways to deter the hellfires.

What happens in each of these conflicts is this - we are reinforcing to terrorists that by integrating into civilian neighborhoods, by storing weapons in homes, by using women and children as shields...you can get away with your terrorism with little risk. This simply has to be stopped. Hezbollah has some of the most advanced missile and rocket systems in the terror world literally parked in between homes in south Beirut - they laugh at the Israelis, they laugh at the world because they know they can't be touched. I say we call their bluff.

Israel pounds Hamas, but rocket fire continues

Israel also stepped up its psychological campaign Monday, trying to turn the citizens of Gaza against Hamas. "Urgent message, warning to the citizens of Gaza," said a recorded phone call to Gaza resident Moussa El-Hadad.
"Hamas is using you as human shields. Do not listen to them. Hamas has abandoned you and are hiding in their shelters."
Previously, the Israeli military dropped leaflets warning civilians to leave the area for their own safety.
At least 30 rockets were launched from Gaza into southern Israel on Sunday -- including 12 Grad rockets -- the IDF said.
One Israeli was slightly wounded when a rocket landed in the southern Israeli city of Ashdod on Sunday, according to Israeli ambulance services. Four Israelis -- one soldier and three civilians -- have been killed in the ongoing rocket strikes, Israeli officials said.
The Israeli military said the current ground assault is the second phase of the operation to stop militants from firing rockets and mortars into southern Israel.
The cat-and-mouse game continued as thousands of Israeli troops, backed by tanks, artillery and helicopters, have pushed deep into Gaza, essentially splitting the territory in two -- the north and the south.
