This is unbelievable. Granted, the only details I have of this are the article you'll see here from Breitbart but this reeks of Haditha. The best way to tell the story is to look at some excerpts from the article but I ask you to recall that this was one of the most intense battles of the entire War in Afghanistan - this was Lashkar Gah in Helmand province and one of the bloodiest and deadliest battles that left 100 Taliban dead - the battle raged for 3 days. Here's the details of this sham this Canadian soldier is facing:
I'm sure there will be many more details to come out as this case moves forward but just remember how the Left in this country (yes, I'm talking about you too , scum Murtha) was CONVINCED of the guilt of the Haditha Marines in Iraq - and they were all exonerated but scarred for life with the charges.
It's my hope that Canadians with heart and soul and conviction will come to the defense and aid of this brave soldier.
A Canadian soldier has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a presumed Taliban fighter in Helmand province.Okay, so let's just assume that Capt. Semrau DID shoot and kill an unarmed Taliban jihadist. We have a three day battle with an onslaught of hundreds of Taliban against outnumbered Canadian, British and Afghan National forces. As in every attack by the Taliban, they attack from a great distance and then proceed on into the targeted area...included in these attacks are often Taliban jihadists rigged with suicide belts and grenades. Are Canadian authorities willing to put a soldier's life and reputation on the line in the guarantee that this Taliban jihadist was NOT rushing forward in the manner of a suicide bomber?
Capt. Robert Semrau is accused of shooting an unarmed man during a battle in October, in which Afghan soldiers defended the Helmand capital of Lashkar Gah from a prolonged attack by insurgents.
Semrau is a member of the Operational Mentor and Liaison Team, the Canadian military unit that mentors the fledgling Afghan National Army.
At the time of the incident, Canadian military mentors from the OMLT were in Helmand to mentor the Afghan soldiers participating in the bloody three-day defence of Lashkar Gah. British forces, who are deployed extensively in Helmand, also took part.
Afghan and foreign troops eventually retook the Nad Ali district centre, which had been held by insurgents, after a three-day fight. That battle, which also involved air strikes, ended Oct. 18.
Afghan and NATO officials claimed at least 100 Taliban died in the fighting.

Canadian soldier charged with murder in death of Taliban fighter
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - A Canadian soldier has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a presumed Taliban fighter in Helmand province.
A news release says the major crimes unit of Canada's military police charged Semrau on Wednesday - the same day the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service announced an investigation into a death that took place "on or about" Oct. 19 in Helmand province.
Semrau is being held in military police custody before being returned to Canada.
A NATO news release dated Oct. 19, 2008 - the date of the alleged incident - quotes Semrau himself talking about the experience of working with Afghan soldiers.
"Working with the ANA presents some challenges; you have to be very patient, but when you get down to the bottom of it, they are just like us and like to kid around and joke," Semrau - indentified as an OMLT "commanding mentor" - is quoted as saying.
"They're just like soldiers all around the world and are some good guys."

Trying to "understand" the guy who wants to kill you guarantees his success. The killing of a Taliwhacker is not ever a murder, it is saving the lives of children and women. This man is a hero.
Shark,
Agreed. The only good Taliban, is a dead Taliban.
