British Judge Slammed For Adding Only 3 Years Jail Time To Muslim Gang Rape Leader

Victim slams 'soft' rape sentence for Rochdale sex gang leader

A judge has been criticised for handing the predator who led the Rochdale child grooming gang just three more years for repeatedly raping another girl.

Shabir Ahmed, 59, who is already serving a 19-year sentence over the scandal, was yesterday handed a further 22-year jail sentence for a 'campaign of rapes' against another girl over many years.

But only three years were added to his overall sentence as the judge ordered the later jail term should be served concurrently with the earlier one.

Today, the father of a girl Shabir raped above a takeaway in Heywood before sharing her among his friends, slammed the latest sentence, which means Ahmed could be released when he is 70.

He told the M.E.N: "I'm disappointed. He has shown he is a serial rapist. His morals are thoroughly twisted and completely wrong. He should be locked up forever. He should never be released. Instead, he has just got another three years.

"He's a thoroughly depraved individual, a vile creature. There are no other words for him."

Ahmed, formerly of Winsor Road, Oldham, was absent as Judge Mushtaq Khokhar passed sentence at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court.

Ahmed was banished to the cells following a series of courtroom outbursts.

Earlier this year a jury rejected his claim that the victim had either made her story up or imagined it and found him guilty of 30 counts of rape.

His victim had gone to the police about the abuse but initially she decided not to pursue the case.

It was only when police arrested Ahmed over the Rochdale scandal that they went back to her and she gave full details of the systematic sexual abuse she suffered at his hands.

She told how he continued to rape her even as she sobbed – exactly what he did when he raped a girl of 15 as part of the Rochdale grooming case.

During four hours of police interviews, the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, went into graphic detail about the abuse.

She believes she became pregnant after one of the rapes but had a miscarriage.

Father-of-four Ahmed, who made a series of outrageous outbursts during the Rochdale grooming case at Liverpool Crown Court earlier this year, continued in the same vein, interrupting the judge as he was passing sentence.

"It's all lies," he said, adding: "It's all concocted by the police. What are you looking at? You will rot in hell."

Judge Khokhar warned him about his behaviour and later sent him to the cells after another outburst.

He said there has been a 'background of intimidation and coercion' and that the abuse continued until she 'plucked up enough courage' to tell others about her ordeal.

The judge, referring to an impact statement written by the victim, said she continued to suffer from a lack of confidence and added that her 'prospects are bleak'.

He went on: "She mentions suffering from nightmares involving this defendant. She has been psychologically affected as well as affected in other ways. These are serious offences."

He added: "This was a campaign of rapes... There are no extenuating circumstances in this case."
