As has been the case over the last 10 years or so, the Taliban mounted one of their classic attacks on a Pakistani security outpost wounding up to 22 Pakistani troops but then the Pakistanis got their act together and ended up decimating the Taliban, killing up to 20 of the jihadis.

From the story at DAWN:

A government official says security forces have killed at least 20 militants after coming under attack near the Afghan border.

Wajid Khan says 22 troops were also wounded in Thursday’s gunbattle in the northwestern Kurram tribal region.

He says the fighting began when a group of Pakistani militants attacked a security post. The troops returned fire and killed 20 militants.

What gets lost for most Americans in regards to the War in Afghanistan is the huge price that the Taliban pay, day in and day out - you NEVER see these kinds of reports on the MSM, so most Americans think the Taliban have a walk in the park in both Afghanistan and Pakistan. The fact of the matter is that each and every day Taliban are getting killed by U.S., NATO and Pakistani troops. I bet you didn't see today on MSNBC or CBS that a shadow governor for the Taliban in Helmand Province in Afghanistan was captured by U.S. troops...did you?

If the Pakistanis decided to commit their military to a sustained massive operation in the northwest for six months, the Taliban could nearly be wiped out in the country but that will never happen ...not as long as so many variables exist in this country like sympathies for the Taliban in high political offices, hatred of the Afghan government and people and of course, the fact that many in Pakistan do relish that the Taliban kill infidels in Afghanistan.

Troops kill 20 militants in Kurram Agency

PARACHINAR: A government official says security forces have killed at least 20 militants after coming under attack near the Afghan border.

Wajid Khan says 22 troops were also wounded in Thursday’s gunbattle in the northwestern Kurram tribal region.

He says the fighting began when a group of Pakistani militants attacked a security post. The troops returned fire and killed 20 militants.

The death toll could not be independently confirmed as the fighting was in a remote mountainous area that is off-limits to journalists.

Kurram is considered a main base for the Pakistani Taliban. Scores of insurgents are believed to be hiding there after escaping military operations in the nearby tribal regions in recent years.
