VP Joe Biden is in Iraq as the last of American troops in the country get ready to exit so just to make Biden's visit more of a sham, al Qaeda in Iraq decided to blow up a car bomb in a busy market north of Baghdad....killing 10 Iraqis and wounding 25.

From the story at DAWN:

A car bomb exploded in a street market in the Iraqi town of Khalis on Thursday, killing 10 people and wounding 25, police and hospital officials said.

Authorities immediately imposed a curfew in Khalis, about 80 kilometres north of Baghdad.

“According to the witnesses, there was a parked civilian car bomb in the street market and it blew up and led to the deaths of 10 people,” said Major Ali al-Temimi of the Khalis police.

Now, the U.S. is going to have plenty of troops in Kuwait for a bit but I am predicting a slow but steady rise in these kinds of attacks as U.S. troops are totally flushed out of the Iraqi scene and then the debate will begin. At what point in time, would the U.S. send troops BACK to Iraq? Would the Iraqis actually ask for assistance or would they turn to the East and seek Iranian support? And what if Iran did put some security support inside of the country...would the Sunni population of Iraq begin a new offensive?

If you think Iraq is done in the news, I'm afraid you've got another thing coming.

Bomb blast kills 10 in Iraq

BAGHDAD: A car bomb exploded in a street market in the Iraqi town of Khalis on Thursday, killing 10 people and wounding 25, police and hospital officials said.

The blast underscored Iraq’s fragile security as the remaining 13,000 US troops pull out in the next few weeks, nearly nine years after the invasion that ousted Saddam Hussein.

US Vice President Joe Biden is on a visit to Iraq designed to herald a new era in US-Iraqi relations.
