The Perfect Saturday: Rival Taliban Groups In Pakistan Kill 15 of Each Other

Now these are some Taliban attacks that I can fully support - against each other! Two rival groups of Taliban with two leaders that can't seem to coexist battled each other today and the net result was 15 of the jihadis are now dead.

From the report at DAWN:

At least 15 militants were killed in a shootout between the supporters of two Pakistani Taliban commanders near the Afghan border, a government official said.

The official, Mir Alam, said several insurgents were also wounded during Saturday’s gunbattle in the Orakzai tribal region. He said it was unclear what sparked the shootout.

However, such clashes are common in Orakzai where an unspecified number of insurgents and their commanders have been hiding after fleeing a military operation in nearby regions in recent years.

The article makes reference to the clean out of Orakzai by the Pakistani military awhile back and so it's my guess that today's battle started when one Taliban faction moved back into this agency trying to flee some of the pressure of other agencies...it's my guess that the one Taliban group that was in place didn't want to share the turf.

Hopefully, this whole survival of the fittest of the Taliban groups will catch on and we can see a few thousand killed over the next few months. Or you could look at it this way - this warring between Taliban factions will all go away when Obama's withdrawal in Afghanistan starts and these Taliban groups can all move back across the border into Afghanistan and have plenty of room to divide up.

Pakistan’s army declared a victory in Orakzai last year but violence has continued.
