Pakistani Security Forces Foil Huge Suicide Attack, Five Bombers Killed Including Three Women

Perhaps the Pakistanis got lucky today but the fact of the matter is that they did dodge a helluva bullet - when you have a car packed with five suicide bombers all wearing suicide vests you are talking about the potential for one helluva bombing...wherever they were headed.

Here's what happened, according to DAWN:

Pakistani security forces Tuesday foiled a major suicide attack when they killed five militants equipped with suicide vests, three of them women, in a firefight, officials said.

The incident took place near a security post outside the southwestern city of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province.

“The militants armed with guns and bombs were travelling in a car, police intercepted them but they tried to flee, triggering an exchange of fire. All five attackers have been killed,” city police chief Daud Junejo said.

The group threw hand grenades at the checkpost in Quetta’s Kharotabad neighbourhood and opened fire on the troops inside, he said, adding that it was not their planned target and they had been travelling on the airport road.

“The troops retaliated and killed all of them,” he said. “No security official was hurt, it’s all ok, it’s over now.”

Now, here's where things get a bit weird in this foiled attempt. Look at the last line of the article:

The attackers wore suicide vests, he said, adding that the women could be Chechen and an investigation had been ordered.

Chechen women in the middle of Pakistan? Hell, I'm not sure if I've ever seen reference to even males from Chechnya being in Pakistan or Afghanistan - it's almost like this report was from some moron that doesn't know the difference between a Chechen and a Uzbek. Well, I guess when it comes to white people, maybe they all look alike to the Pakistanis.

We have seen just how much damage a single suicide bomber can do...imagine if all five of these jihadis had reached their target and set off their vests...we could literally be looking at 500 people or more killed in such an attack.

Colonel Faisal Shehzad, a paramilitary Frontier Corps officer said it appeared the militants were killed before they could reach their objective.

“They were looking for a major target, but we foiled their attempt,” he said.

The attackers wore suicide vests, he said, adding that the women could be Chechen and an investigation had been ordered.
