Iran Unveils New Missile and Satellite Technology and Warns They Have "complete domination" Over the Entrance To The Persian Gulf

Okay, here we have today another round of the Iranians puffing out their chests, showing more firepower capabilities and bragging that they have "complete domination" over the Strait of Hormuz and the entrance to the Persian Gulf. In other words, the world's dependence on oil coming out of the Persian Gulf is getting closer to being held hostage by the Iranians and so we all in the West better knock off the sanctions and the calls for an end to their nuclear ambitions.

And the response from Washington, D.C. is what it always is....nothing but crickets. Now, I am NOT calling for a Presidential response to every lunatic statement from the Iranians but what I am demanding is for the U.S. to do some positioning and to hint at the fact that we are actually working towards some protection of our interests - we have to remember that there are countries in this world that truly believe the Iranians and when it comes down to brass tacks, I'm not sure we are prepared for what they might have accomplished over the past two or three years. Some of this talk is complete bullshit but what if some of it is true? Are you confident that Barack and the boys in D.C. have a handle on this? I'm not.

We have a damn President and Congress who refuse to let us drill for any of our own oil - THEY are the ones forcing us into a dependency on the Persian Gulf supply and at the same time, if the Iranians block the Strait of Hormuz, we are going to see sky rocketing prices and cuts in supply.

Let me ask a dumb question. In response to the Iranian announcement today, what would happen if Barack Hussein Obama and a group of Senators and Representatives held a press conference tomorrow and announced the the Gulf of Mexico was now wide open to U.S. drilling, that the drilling operations off of the SE Atlantic coast had been approved and the same for West Coast drilling and that additionally, oil shale projects in the western United States had been moved forward for feasibility? What would happen? I think you might agree with me that the Iranians would have the fucking air taken out of their damn balloon. Let's put it this way - I'd pay a good price to see the look on their faces when confronted with an oil-independent America.

Iran unveils missiles, satellites as warning to foes

TEHRAN: Iran showed off new missile and satellite technology on Monday, and told its enemies it had “complete domination” of the entrance to the oil-rich Gulf.

As part of Iran’s annual revolution celebrations, a time traditionally marked by new technological and military advances, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad unveiled locally-made satellites while a senior commander showed off mass produced missiles.

“We should reach a point where we will be able to provide our knowledge and technology in the aerospace field to other countries,” Ahmadinejad said in a speech, unveiling the satellites he said were for scientific purposes, and showing film of a satellite-carrier rocket.

Although Iran is not engaged in any military conflict, it is on constant alert against possible attacks from the United States and Israel which have not ruled out possible pre-emptive strikes to stop Tehran getting nuclear weapons.

Iran says it has no intention of making nuclear bombs and that its atomic programme, which is the subject of US, European and UN sanctions, is entirely peaceful.

In 2009, Iran launched a domestically-made satellite into orbit for the first time, a step that increased the West’s fear that the Islamic Republic is seeking to build a nuclear bomb and missile delivery systems.

The chief commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Mohammad Ali Jafari, said the new mass-produced missile would be able to target enemies at sea.

“Its speed is three times greater than the speed of sound and it cannot be traced and deactivated by enemies,” official news agency IRNA quoted Jafari as saying.

Another Guards commander, Ali Fadavi reiterated Iran’s threat to close the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow channel through which 40 per cent of the world’s seaborne oil trade passes.

“The Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz are under the complete domination of the Revolutionary Guards … and it would be blocked in case of a threat,” he said, according to the semi-official Mehr news agency.

Foreign analysts say Iran would be reluctant to take such a drastic step as it would cut off its own oil exports.

Iran could cause problems in the Strait of Hormuz with simple, Civil War era technology - mines and projectiles. Geography shows that they don't need satellites etc. Unfortunate but true- they don't call it the Persian Gulf for nothing.
