Suicide Bomber Attacks Mosque In Peshawar, Pakistan...40 Killed

Okay, the death toll is listed at 40 at this posting at DAWN but in most of these cases, that will grow rapidly with time but the aftermath of a suicide bomber attacking a mosque in a suburb of Peshawar, Pakistan has been devastating.

A suicide bombing demolished a mosque in Pakistan’s northwest province during Friday prayers killing at least 40 people, provincial government officials said.

The blast occurred in Darra Adam Khel, a suburb of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa capital Peshawar.

“It was a suicide attack and there are 40 dead so far,” said Shahid Ullah, a senior provincial government official.

People were exiting the Waali Mosque following Friday prayers when the bomber attacked.

Video from the scene showed screaming women, white-bearded old men in blood-stained clothes and a child being wheeled into the emergency room of a nearby hospital.

Let's get real here, the country of Pakistan is one bloody mess. As most regular readers here know, I am reading about Pakistan each and every day - my research of that country is mostly concerning its proximity to the Afghanistan War but every single day there is either a suicide bombing at a mosque, a Taliban attack on a school, warring factions shooting up each other or the military taking out insurgent compounds. I mean, it never ends. In the past two years, I cannot remember two days in a row when major death didn't affect Pakistan.

One of the questions that probably will crop up in time is whether Iraq will eventually end up similar to Pakistan - when you have every jihadi group under the sun trying to make its own mark on the world and accelerate their own recruiting, this is what you end up with. Iraq is nowhere near this right now, but I fear with a couple year span coming up where the Iraqi army and security forces are still going to be vulnerable, you will see the proliferation of Jihadi Incorporated set up shop in that country.
