Italy Bans Star of David Flags At Soccer Match

Good grief. A British soccer team that is to compete in Italy, has been informed that the large contingent of Jewish fans of their team will not be allowed to bring flags with the Star of David on them to the match. The Italians are trying to site an obscure rule in the matter that bans political or religious flags from competition.

From the story at Haaretz:

Fans of the English soccer club Tottenham Hotspur are being told not to bring any flags with the Jewish Star of David on it if they plan to cheer their team on in its European championship game on Thursday in Milan, Italy.

The soccer club, which has a large Jewish following, posted on its website about the upcoming game in Italy: "police authorities have advised that those flags showing the Star of David will not be allowed access and may be confiscated. Please respect this request."

The club's management said that the policy of not allowing flags with political or religious messages is already known and accepted by most fans.
Now, I ask you...if there was a Turkish soccer club participating in this tournament and their fans showed up with Turkish flags and other flags with the unholy crescent of islam on it, would those flags be banned?

I sincerely doubt it.
