Russians Finally Admit That Iranians Are Close To Nuclear Weapons

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev today finally admitted to the whole world that the Iranians are getting close to having nuclear weapons - imagine that, after the Russians spent the past half a decade of hiding the Iranian plans.

From the report at The Jerusalem Post:

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Monday that Iran was approaching the point at which it would be able to make nuclear weapons, Reuters reported.During a meeting of international ambassadors in Moscow, Medvedev said "Iran is moving closer to possessing the potential which in principle could be used for the creation of nuclear weapons."

The statement was a rare public admission by the Kremlin that Iran may have the intention of building a nuclear weapon. Reuters said the statement came after an argument with Iran over Russia's support of sanctions against Iran.
Now, as you can see, the news media is saying that Medvedev's outburst of info came after a spat with the Iranians but I think there's a different reason. I think the Russians have caught some wind of some planning by various nations to take out Iran's nukes.

Call me crazy but I truly believe that there are talks underway between a number of Western countries, including the U.S., and the Israelis and yes, even a couple of Arab countries to at least finish a plan to take out Iranian nukes. I do not think the Russians were included in this planning but caught wind of it. And Medvedev doesn't want to end up being perceived as on the Iranian side of things when the smoke clears. When it's all said and done, and the results of an operation against the Iranians shows just how far they were along and to what extent, I feel the Russians don't want to be seen as co-collaborators...thus the Russian President is now coming out as this "helpful informant."

I guess we'll wait and see but what this does amount to is the Iranians circle of friends sympathetic to their nuclear cause is shrinking considerably and I'm guessing there are some sleepless nights going on in Tehran right now.
