Bin Laden's Jihadis Almost Assassinated Bill Clinton In 1999

A new book is out and it points to an incident when then acting U.S. President Bill Clinton was visiting the Philippines - it details just how close bin Laden's assassins came to an attempt on the life of Clinton.

From Times of India:

Osama Bin Laden-controlled terrorists came within minutes of assassinating former US president Bill Clinton during his 1996 Philippines visit, a new book has revealed.

Clinton was saved shortly before his car was due to drive over a bridge in Manila where a bomb had been planted. The attack came during Clinton's visit to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Manila in 1996. He was scheduled to visit a local politician, his route taking him across a bridge in central Manila. But as his motorcade was about to set off, secret service officers received a "crackly message in one earpiece" saying intelligence agents had picked up a message suggesting an attack was imminent. The motorcade was quickly re-routed and American agents later discovered a bomb had been planted under the bridge.

I don't know...it doesn't seem to me that was a very reciprocal gesture by bin Laden considering that former President Clinton did his best to ignore every terrorist attack that bin Laden had plotted or carried out up to that point. I guess it just goes to show you that you can't trust a terrorist leader, huh?

The truly chilling part of this is that if the attack would have succeeded, we would have had Al Gore thrust into the Presidency. Who knows, perhaps Gore would have retaliated against bin Laden by dropping solar panels on the Afghan hideout of the al Qaeda leader.

'Osama almost got Clinton in Manila'

The book 'In The Death of American Virtue: Clinton vs Starr' by American law professor Ken Gormley, says, further investigation "revealed that it had been masterminded by a Saudi terrorist living in Afghanistan — a man named Osama bin Laden".
