To be fair on this one, given the jurisdictional spaghetti plate that is D.C., if you want to gather more than three people for anything, you need permits up the ying-yang. For example, a section of one side walk may fall under Dept of State Protective Services Police, 50-yards down, you may be inside Federal Judicial Police, another may be Capitol Hill Police, and on and on.

All which require separate permits. They would have busted the chops out of anyone regarded color or creed.

nice truck!

Those kids looked like they needed to be taught a lesson by the goon squad. Don’t they know they must bow down before their masters in blue? Was I the only one getting that vibe from the park ranger? Submit or watch me use force against you! /sarc

There are laws, and then there is the Constitution, which applies in a Federal Park / District. Know your law:
“All laws which are repugnant to the Constitution are null and void.” — Marbury v. Madison, 5 U.S. (2 Cranch) 137 (1803)

The Constitution acknowledges those rights, it does not grant them. The people hold several truths to be self-evident – Among them, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights… (maybe you heard the rest?)

“A free people [claim] their rights as derived from the laws of nature, and not as the gift of their chief magistrate.”
- Thomas Jefferson

“Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.”
- Thomas Jefferson

Perverted is when a park ranger tells people that they do not have the right to assemble nor to speak freely in a national park, he threatens them with use of force, and then the goon squad arrives in military hardware to force their commands upon their alleged subjects!

The Creator endowed natural law which give us inalienable rights, including the right to assembly and speech. But a park ranger and his goon squad trump that?

“A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.”
-Edward Abbey

The previous government of this place developed a similar attitude about people speaking freely. They detained some and threatened others.

So, in the course of human events, it became necessary for a people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another.

From 1775-1781, Col. Banastre Tarleton held a similar view of those upity little people not listening to his commands, and speaking ill of his authority. Didn’t they know they were subjects to his authority, and could be crushed likes bugs if he willed it? (Which he did quite often.)

Tarleton’s use of force against ‘his subjects’ merely steeled their resolve, and the resolve of all like minded folks.

Everyone of those kids, who saw that military truck and felt deep down what was being threatened, now understands what ‘jack booted terrorist’ means. And they were ‘libertarians’ before? They’ll be much more effective hereafter.

Asking permission for 'free' speech?

hmmmm.

What would George Washington do?
(WWGWD) The city is named after him. Is the name now a joke, or what?

Nice Jefferson quotes Sofie, especially "A free people claim their rights..."

That's why I don't get too worked up about gun laws, govt. regs on the vegetables I grow, etc. I keep a low profile and know my limits- but if I really want to do something I do it.

Yeah - They'd do this to acorn too.

Fat black police women are not law enforcement, they are affirmative action hirees. This was a clear Constitutional violation. The content of the protest is not a valid law enforcement concern. This was the Park Police and readers should report this to the Department of Agriculture Office of Inspector General
