The Vile Speech of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad At Durban 2

I won't even comment on the vile, putrid exhalation of words coming out of Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad today except for this - read the excerpts of his speech today and ask yourself this question: "Am I in favor of our President, Barack Obama, continuing to reach out to this man for negotiations?"

Here's much of the text of Ahmadinejad's speech which prompted most Western delegations to walk out of the hall, from the posting at AP:

Excerpts from Iranian president's speech at UN

English translation of excerpts from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's speech at the U.N. racism conference:
"Following World War II, they resorted to military aggression to make an entire nation homeless under the pretext of Jewish suffering. They sent migrants from Europe, the United States and other parts of the world in order to establish a totally racist government in the occupied Palestine. In fact, in compensation for the dire consequences of racism in Europe, they helped bring to power the most cruel and repressive racist regime in Palestine."
___
"It is all the more regrettable that a number of Western governments and the United States have committed themselves to defend those racist perpetrators of genocide, while the awakened, conscious and free-minded people of the world condemn aggression, brutalities and bombardments of civilians of Gaza."
___
"Ladies and gentlemen: What are the root causes of U.S. attacks against Iraq, or invasion of Afghanistan? Was the motive behind the invasion of Iraq anything other than the arrogance of the then-U.S. administration and the mounting pressures ... to expand their sphere of influence, seeking the interest of giant arms manufacturing companies, affecting another culture with thousands of years of historical background, eliminating potential and practical threats of Muslim countries against the Zionist regime? Or, to control and plunder energy resources of the Iraqi people. Why indeed were almost a million people killed and injured, and a few more millions were displaced and became homeless? Why indeed have the Iraqi people suffered enormous losses amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars? ... Wasn't the military action against Iraq planned by the Zionists and their allies in the then-U.S. administration, in complicity with the arms manufacturing companies, and the owner of the world?"
___
"The United States and its allies not only have failed to contain the production of drugs in Afghanistan, but also the illicit cultivation of narcotics multiplied in the course of their presence. The basic question is what was the responsibility of the then-U.S. administration and its allies? Did they represent countries of the world? Have they been mandated by them? Have they been authorized on behalf of the people of the world to interfere in all parts of the globe, and of course mostly in our region? Aren't these measures a clear example of egocentrism, racism, discrimination, or infringement on the dignity and independence of nations?"
___
Ladies and gentlemen: Who is responsible for the current global economic crisis? Where did the crisis start from? From Africa? From Asia? Or was it first from the United States?"
"Dear friends, today, the human community is facing a kind of racism that has tarnished the image of humanity. In the beginning of the third millennium, the world Zionism personifies racism that falsely resorts to religion, and abuses religious sentiment to hide their hatred and ugly faces. However, it is of great importance to bring into focus the political goals of some of the world's powers and those who control huge economic resources and interests in the world, and mobilize all their resources, economic and political influence, and world media to render support in vain to the Zionist regime, and maliciously to diminish to indignity and disgrace this regime."

So: what exactly is your problem with these "vile" comments?

You can label them as "putrid", etc, but you haven't addressed whether or not they are in fact true. Perhaps you are deigning not to comment because it is not possible to defend the actions of the Israeli occupation anymore than it is possible to defend the actions of the Nazi regime or the Apartheid regime in South Africa.

Ahmadinejad's attempt to link Zionism with American foreign policy in Iraq and Afghanistan is at best extremely tenuous, but the rest of what he has to say is simply...true.

x,

Seems appropriate that you would leave this comment today, 4/20. Anyway, I think the Israelis are as guilty of "occupation" as Americans are of "occupying" Texas and California.

Ahmadinejad has called for the extermination of an entire country's people. That qualifies him as putrid and vile. And considering those people are G_d's Chosen People, makes it even more personal.

He's a punk and he blew any chance today he ever had of gaining any credibility on the world's stage.

Here's a cluebat for ya "X." Throughout history when you lose a war, you lose a lot, including your land. Isreal has fought and won several wars since 1948, and each time got land from its defeated foes that were vital to their own defense.

-Golan Heights: prevent Syria from having an instant highground, thus discouraging future attacks

-Sinai Peninsula: gave Isreal proper a buffer zone agaisnt Egypt until they surrened it (minus the "Gaza Strip") for the cold but lasting peace they have to this day.

-West Bank: gave Isreal all the land west of the Jordan River, thus giving them a natural barrier against yet another multi-war foe Jordan.

And yet, when the "Palestinians" were asked by other Arab countries to get the hell out of the way, these same people were refused to be taken in by these countries (unlike Israel where they have been accepted for the most part), leading to think like concentration camps in Lebanon (hmmm...concentration camps in arab countries, and Israel is the Nazi state...)

So when the Palestinians finally accept Isreal's right to exist (which they refused to do yet again just last week) and stop trying to commit genocide (quite Nazi-esque if you ask me) on the Jews, then maybe I'll give a shit about what they and their supporters, like Iran, have to say.

I follow your excellent blog with interest and enthusiasm. Thank you once again for being right on the button with your comments.
I cannot BELIEVE that this man was even allowed to speak at a "racism" conference after he endorsed holocaust-denial. It sets the scene for the whole circus and further erodes any moral authority the UN ever had.

California is 'occupied' territory. US took it from Mexico and now the Mexicans are taking it back. Be careful when you start throwing around 'might makes right' arguments. I wonder if the Romans were feeling pretty cocky right before the barbarian hordes came streaming in.

Please note I am a different anonymous(the one that has written the odd recent comment and was invited to comment again by Holgar)
The tiny democratic state of Israel is one Jewish state, among 57 muslim states.
If the state of Palestine existed before the state of Israel, what was its currency, where were its borders, who was its head of state, what was its main export, which other countries did it have trade treaties with, what was its form of government.IO could go on but I think you have the picture.SO do you think the little pigs bastard from persia is a liar, and do you think the swiss are ass licking to get arab money for their banks?

pyro,

Great, great comment - one of the best left here of late at Holger Awakens. Thank you.

Viking, it's great to have you here and yes, the United Nations knew EXACTLY what Ahmadinejad would say - they basically sanctioned it.

Anonymous #1,

I wouldn't write off California so soon. As for the "might" - you may just get your wish with Obama as President. And I'm not so sure I equate myself with the Romans...perhaps more like the barbarians.

Anonymous #2,

Thanks for the comment - good stuff. Stop back again and note, if you click the box labeled "Name/URL", you can type any name in there and do NOT have to leave a URL address - it helps differentiate you from other anonymous commenters.

Rob,

You misunderstood my comment. "x" referred to "the Israeli occupation" and thus I made the reference to 4/20 or 420 - i was referring to the birthday of Adolf Hitler (420 is used by more than just partakers of weed).

Hope that clears that up.
