Good grief...can it get ANY bloody worse in Pakistan? This new Pakistani government is absolutely rudderless in their navigating any type of national security for it's land and now, they have gone and done it again - they have entered into MORE peace agreements with the devils of the Taliban and have even approved islamic law (Sharia) be implemented in a section of NW Pakistan. Here's some of the gory details from the article over at Breitbart:
But what it shows is the length to which the Pakistani government will go to try and quell the onslaught going on in their country - they are grasping at straws like a frantic man caught in an undertow. They simply don't know whether to kill the Taliban or give them everything they want. Well, I can assure them that dealing with the Taliban is like dealing with the Devil. Mark my words, if this Sharia law in the Swat Valley holds, the Taliban will use this precedence to install it across the entire NW provinces - it will spur new violence in order to use this bargaining chip again and again.
The government agreed to implement Islamic law and suspend a military offensive across a large swath of northwest Pakistan on Monday in concessions aimed at pacifying a spreading Taliban insurgency there. In a nutshell, what this ruling means is that all of the atrocities being committed by the Taliban in the NW provinces will be shrouded in justification. In other words, this is going to provide the Taliban carte blanche in "prosecuting" spies, unfaithful women and at the same time, releasing Taliban who bomb schools and kill innocent civilians.
The announcement came after talks with Islamist groups, including one closely linked to the Taliban.
The move will likely concern the United States, which has warned Pakistan that such peace agreements allow al-Qaida and Taliban militants operating near the Afghan border time to rearm and regroup.
Amir Haider Khan Hoti, the chief minister for the North West Frontier Province, said authorities would impose Islamic law in Malakand region, which includes the Swat Valley. Swat is a one-time tourist haven in the northwest where extremists have gained sway through brutal tactics including beheading residents, burning girls schools and attacking security forces.
"Our whole struggle is for the enforcement of Shariah (Islamic) law," Swat Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan said. "If this really brings us the implementation of Shariah, we will fully cooperate with it."

Islamic law to be imposed in parts of NW Pakistan
PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) - The government agreed to implement Islamic law and suspend a military offensive across a large swath of northwest Pakistan on Monday in concessions aimed at pacifying a spreading Taliban insurgency there.
He said the laws would only be implemented when the valley was peaceful.
The Swat Taliban said Sunday they would observe a 10-day cease-fire in support of the peace process. They welcomed Monday's announcement, which did not mention any need for the militants to give up arms.
"Our whole struggle is for the enforcement of Shariah (Islamic) law," Swat Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan said. "If this really brings us the implementation of Shariah, we will fully cooperate with it."
Hoti gave few details, but said the main changes were included in existing laws stipulating Islamic justice that have never been enforced. They allow for Muslim clerics to advise judges when hearing cases, but do not ban female education or mention other strict interpretations of Shariah espoused by the Taliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
"This was the people's demand ... for speedy justice." he said. "There was a (legal) vacuum and we will be filling that vacuum in the near future," he told a news conference.
Hoti also said that troops in Swat, which had been conducting an offensive there against the militants, would now go on "reactive mode" and retaliate only if attacked.
Pakistani military officials were not immediately available for comment.
Also Monday, three missiles believed fired from a U.S. unmanned aircraft destroyed a house used by a local Taliban commander in the Kurram tribal region of the northwest, killing 30 people, witnesses said. It was the first known such strike in Kurram. Most of the strikes have occurred in South and North Waziristan, other tribal regions considered major Taliban and al-Qaida strongholds.
Rehman Ullah, a resident of the targeted village of Baggan, said drones were seen in the sky before the attack and that he saw 30 bodies dug up. An intelligence official said field informants reported that militants showed up at the village bazaar and ordered 30 caskets. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to media.

How can you have two sets of law in a country, or a district within a province?
Is this a ' throwing a bone to the dogs ' tactic, if, it is, wait for the backlash as every district in NWFP will ask for their own version of Shariah. There are too many sects within Sunni's & Shias with their own version of Shariah. FYI..the hatred amongst these sects (within Sunni) is so high that they refuse to pray with each other in the same mosque.
This is what happens when you make the village idiot your President (not Refering to Bush), but to Mr 10%.
World please make it mandatory that Pakistan sending 50% or more money on education than so called war on terror. The biggest threat of Terror in that part of the world is lack of education. Majority of People can not read or write, they recite/memorize verses from Quran in Arabic, have no clue what they mean, follow the Homo Mullah's who cant keep their hands of young boys and goats and go on so called Jihad without knowing the meaning of Jihad!!
Those who fail to remember the past are doomed to repeat it. Pakistan will be full civil war within two years, thanks largely to this spineless decision.
Even after all this time I'm still stunned by these people's( and I use the term loosely) fear of education, lack of understanding ANYTHING to do with compassion or human decency, refusal to have anything to do with civilization, their apparent love of violence and their overwhelming fear and hatred of women. These people are frightening and barbaric. MIsery for so many will follow these decisions and its so very, very sad.
Getting closer to the reality of Taliban/Al Qaida Nuke Bombers. Now within two hours drive of Islamabad, the radical knuckleheads in the region will not just stop with some districts in the NWFP...they ultimately will get the "whole region". Establishing the Taliban's version of Sharia Law in these areas is the beginning to the end of Pakistan and what freedoms they have.
Great comments by all here.
John,
I agree totally with your description of this decision..."spineless."
Anonymous #4,
Another apt description - a "cancer." I'd go a step further with that but let's suffice to say that the Taliban are more aggressive than any cancer known to man...their eradication is imperative - it will take years if not decades but obliterating this kind of evil on this planet should be held as top priority.
