According to one Iranian official, the Iranians have successfully introduced an unmanned aircraft (UAV) to their arsenal according to the story here at Breitbart. As is usually the case with the Iranians in matters like this, we have no idea if they are lying or not but this announcement joins a list of other disturbing claims from Iran that is making the rest of the region uneasy. Here's the complete article:
Of course, the most disturbing part of this article is this:
So, we have the Iranians on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons probably within the next 12 to 18 months and we have them recently announcing new defense systems and longer range missiles and now this UAV claim...so the question needs to be asked, with the world so concerned about the Iranians weaponizing themselves, why are they so blatant about it? I mean seriously, why announce this UAV capability? Well, first off, it's hard to figure out a psychotic regime like the Iranians because they are just that, psychotic. I personally think these announcements are more directed at the Sunni nations of the Middle East than they are Israel - I don't think the Iranians will scare Israel with any announcement but in my view, the Iranians want to be the center of the islamic world - they view themselves as the righteous and if they can prove themselves the most powerful, they envision the rest of the islamic countries bowing down to them and rallying around their every strategy.
Possible?
Iran says it has built unmanned aircraft
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - A top Iranian defense official says the country has built an unmanned surveillance aircraft with a range of more than 600 miles.
Deputy Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi described the new aircraft as an "important achievement" to the semiofficial Fars news agency on Wednesday without providing further detail.
Iran has in the past reported building unmanned aircraft, or drones, but this is the first time it has been reported by a named official and its range revealed.
The stated range means the drone can reach Israel.
Iran launched an arms development program during 1980-88 war with neighboring Iraq to compensate for a U.S. arms embargo. Since 1992, Iran says it has produced its own jet fighters and armored vehicles.

Esquerita,
You make a number of valid points here - I appreciate your stopping by. I agree that there is huge division among the islamists but at the same time, I stand by the statement that Iran sees itself as the center of islam - not to say they will have an easy time with corraling other muslim nations or convincing them but when they have the nukes, I think we will see countries like Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Turkey all of a sudden change their tune towards Tehran.
As for the Taliban, hell they hate everyone.
Finally, I mentioned that Israel isn't gonna sweat this stuff too much but as far as our troops in Iraq - yes they could find themselves in a tough spot after an Israeli attack but I think we have had an attack planned for Iran in that event for quite some time.
