Bin Laden Calls For Holy War To Stop Israelis In Gaza...The World (and AP) Yawns

A new audiotape, purportedly from Osama bin Laden, was released today where he calls for a jihad on the Israeli operation in Gaza. Now, this isn't exactly earth shattering that bin Laden would stick up for terrorists in Gaza but what I noticed about this story is that it was BURIED in an AP story at Breitbart - it's actually inside the story of my first post this morning regarding the new rocket attacks from Lebanon in northern Israel! Here's the headline from this breaking NEW tape from bin Laden's "huge" announcement at Breitbart:

Israel again hit by rockets fired from Lebanon

Hmmm....that doesn't say anything about good old Osama, does it?!

Now, let's look at the actual text of the article as it appears that includes this minor blurb about bin Laden:

Thirteen Israelis have also been killed, four of them by rocket fire from Gaza.
After meeting with Mubarak, Ban again called for an immediate halt to the fighting and said negotiations must be intensified to reach that end.
"It is intolerable that civilians bear the brunt of this conflict," he said.
Meanwhile, Osama bin Laden issued a new audiotape Wednesday urging Muslims to launch a jihad, or holy war, to stop the Israeli offensive in Gaza. The al-Qaida chief also condemned Arab governments for preventing their people from acting to "liberate Palestine."
The tape was posted Wednesday on Islamic militant Web sites where al-Qaida usually issues its messages. The authenticity of the tape cannot be independently confirmed. But the voice resembles that of bin Laden in previous messages.
Eight years of Palestinian rocket attacks on southern Israeli towns sparked the war, which began on Dec. 27 with a devastating air offensive, then expanded to include a ground campaign.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Wednesday's rocket attacks from Lebanon. Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed guerrilla group that fought a monthlong war with Israel in 2006, denied involvement in a similar attack last week and speculation has focused on small Palestinian groups in Lebanon.
See that? I mean, I remember a few years ago when a new audio or video tape of Osama bin Laden had the entire world's attention - pages and pages of newspapers were devoted to it, blogs had post after post about it. And now, today...old Osama gets buried in the middle of a little AP story like it's an interview with some poor sap in Gaza. You just gotta love it.

If there was ever any proof that the American and NATO pressure put on al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan has forced Osama bin Laden into virtual obscurity, this is it.

By the way, there isn't any report of millions of islamists around the world taking up bin Laden's call and attacking the army of Israel in Gaza - don't hold your breath.

The Israeli air and ground offensive against Hamas in Gaza has killed more than 940 Palestinians, half of them civilians, according to Palestinian hospital officials. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo Wednesday in diplomatic efforts to end the violence, which began 19 days ago.
