Pakistani Air Strikes Kill 30 Taliban At Afghan Border

Excellent news! Pakistan is heating up military operations against the Taliban in the NW Tribal Areas of Pakistan as today, 30 Taliban were killed in a series of air strikes. This is the kind of pressure the U.S. and NATO command in Afghanistan have been hoping for. Here's some of the details from the article at the WSJ:

Pakistan's army said it has killed 30 militants in air strikes close to the Afghan border.
A military statement said the air strikes targeted militants in two areas of the Mohmand border region on Wednesday and were "highly successful." It provided no details.

It's a very brief article with few details on the operation but who cares...short and SWEET! We have to remember that much of the Taliban is going to be scrambling for wintering grounds this time of year and with the Pakistani military conducting these operations near the Afghan border, the Taliban will simply have to decide where they will winter - on the Afghan side or the Pakistani side. It's my feeling that they will finally end up choosing the Afghan side and that is playing right into NATO hands as command there has vowed to carry on attacks against the Taliban all through the winter.

U.S. officials are pressing Pakistan to increase pressure on Taliban and al Qaeda militants in their strongholds along the frontier, despite growing tension with India over the terror attacks in Mumbai.
Earlier Wednesday, police said a bomb hit a convoy carrying reinforcements to Mohmand and killed three soldiers and a civilian.
