Yessssss ! Now, the report here at the article from the AP comes from an Afghan official and isn't substantiated by U.S. command about the exact number of dead Taliban but I will take it at its face value and celebrate anyway. Here's some of the details from the operation held over the past few days in Helmand province:
Any operation that kills 40 Taliban is a success and this report of the Taliban leader getting offed makes it even more sweet. What still amazes me about these reports though is that Helmand province is still so inundated with Taliban - there have been countless operations in this souther Afghan province, heck....we put in a bunch of Marines just six months ago and yet the Taliban continue to not only flood fighters into this province but the progress of kicking them out seems to never take hold.
Don't get me wrong - I think some good progress has been made but this is just a testament as to how many bodies the Taliban have to throw into the mix here.
An Afghan official says a joint Afghan-NATO operation in the country's south has killed 40 Taliban militants.
Helmand governor spokesman Dawood Ahmadi said Monday that the operation in the Nad Ali and Murja regions of Helmand began last Thursday and is still ongoing. He says that 40 militants have been killed. The dead include Mullah Salim, the head of the Taliban's leadership council in those regions.
