This story almost snuck by me - imagine, 16 Iranian police that were abducted by Sunni jihadists in June of this year in Iran have all been executed according to state radio in Iran. This kind of release of info is pretty unusual for the Iranians. Here's the entire article from AP:
This incident certainly isn't going to go over big with the mullahs in Iran - and it makes one wonder how many of these violent attacks against Iranian police and security forces actually go on. More than likely, this whole report came from an AP reporter just being in the right place at the right time to hear this radio report.
Iranian militants killed 16 kidnapped policeI don't know about you but I wouldn't mind seeing Sunni jihadists and the Iranian forces at each others' throats every single day of the year! We have seen over the years that the relationship between Iran and al Qaeda has gone from pretty ugly to warm gestures to near alliances and then full circle back to adversarial.
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian state radio says police are confirming that a militant group active in Iran has killed all 16 police officers it abducted in June.
The Friday report quotes deputy police chief, Gen. Hossein Sajedinia, as saying the kidnapped troops have all "been martyred two weeks after their abduction."
Gen. Sajedinia says the killings took place at different times.
Shortly after the abduction, the Sunni Muslim Jundallah group said it had executed two of the officers and threatened to kill the remaining 14 unless imprisoned members of the group were released.
Jundallah, or God's Soldiers, is active in southeastern Iran. It has been blamed for past attacks on Iranian troops there. Iranian authorities say it has links to al-Qaida.
