Holy Land Foundation Terrorism Retrial In Texas Goes To Jury

The retrial of the Holy Land Foundation going on in Texas has concluded with the jury going into deliberations. Now, there isn't any new earth-shattering news here but I've put this up as an example of the lack of MSM coverage of this trial - how many Americans are even aware of this second trial? Has ANYONE in the MSM even breathed a word about it? Here's some of the details from the Dallas News:

Jurors will begin deliberations this morning in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing retrial after sitting through nearly two months of testimony capped by two days of impassioned closing arguments.

In two days of closing arguments, prosecutors told jurors that from the late 1980s until it was closed in 2001, the former Richardson charity was the chief fundraising arm of Hamas.
Defense attorneys stressed the charity's humanitarian work and lambasted the government's case as prejudiced.

Now, I have not been following this trial myself (maybe it's because I can't find anything on it!), but I do want to opine here that part of the result of this trial is going to be a core opinion of the jury in which they either believe that the palestinians are oppressed by Israel or not. Let's face it, there has been a masterful job done in the U.S. by islamists to market the sham that the palestinians are some sort of oppressed victim of an Israeli tyrant. And to show just how the defense lawyers in this trial are trying to set this all up, look at this from the article:

Linda Moreno, attorney for former Holy Land co-founder Ghassan Elashi, told jurors Tuesday that her client put politics aside in order to help Palestinians under the brutal Israeli occupation.
"For those who have been impoverished by politics and history and failed leadership, for all those generations of refugees that he helped feed and clothe and educate, Ghassan Elashi does not apologize for serving them," she said. "He knew the work of the Holy Land Foundation attracted enemies."

See what I mean? This Moreno, this puke of an attorney, positions here client as a humanitarian while the real story is this piece of shit, Elashi, was simply funding Hamas' terrorist activities in Gaza.

So, we wait for the jury to decide but I have a bad feeling on this one. This defense tactic might just work.

She acknowledged that wiretapped phone calls showed Mr. Elashi questioned the fairness of U.S. terrorism laws that he thought would stifle legitimate overseas aid to the needy Palestinians and other refugees. "But," she said, "he sought to obey."
Joshua Dratel, attorney for Holy Land co-founder Mohammad El-Mezain, told jurors to dismiss the testimony of Mohamed Shorbagi, Holy Land's former Georgia representative who pleaded guilty to using the foundation to support Hamas.
He said Mr. Shorbagi lied when he testified about the defendants' involvement with Hamas to get time off his seven-year jail sentence.
"This is a guy who can make up stories" because he "wants to go home," Mr. Dratel said. "You cannot believe Mr. Shorbagi beyond a reasonable doubt, based solely on his reason for testifying here."
In the government rebuttal – the final word before deliberations begin – prosecutor Jim Jacks reminded jurors of videos from the 1980s and early 1990s depicting Palestinian festivals where speakers and musicians openly praised Hamas and Holy Land raised money.
"Can there be any doubt that these men were the leaders of Hamas in the United States and that they were the fundraising mechanism?" he asked. "Look at all those videos. It seems like every song was about support of Hamas, about martyrdom, about jihad, about killing Jews."
Last year, jurors deliberated for 19 days before U.S. District Judge A. Joe Fish declared them deadlocked on Oct. 22, 2007, and ordered a mistrial. Opening statements in the retrial began Sept. 22.
