Yemen Police Arrest 30 Al Qaeda, Kill 5

Yemen has been battling al Qaeda for quite awhile but it has pretty much flown under the radar, certainly of an AP or MSM reporting. In the past two weeks, Yemeni police and security forces have captured 30 al Qaeda jihadists. Here's the full story from The Peninsula:

Yemen police arrest 30 Al Qaeda suspects

SANAA • Yemeni authorities have arrested 30 suspected Al Qaeda members in the past two weeks in a crackdown on the network in the eastern province of Hadramaut, an official said yesterday.
The official, who asked not to be named, said "a series of security operations" have followed a firefight in the town of Tarim on August 11 in which a prominent Al Qaeda fugitive and four other militants were killed.
Officials said the Tarim cell had been plotting attacks in neighbouring Saudi Arabia, which has battled suspected Al Qaeda militants for the past five years. Yemeni authorities said last week that five Al Qaeda suspects were nabbed near the town of Sayun, where a policeman was killed in a July 25 suicide bombing claimed by Al Qaeda.

Notice the reference to this al Qaeda cell plotting attacks on Saudi Arabia...interesting. If you recall, quite a few months ago, al Qaeda #2 sent out a plea for al Qaeda jihadists to travel to Yemen and at that time, there was concern that a new front was opening up there. This story may be the first of many if indeed, those jihadists have finally showed up and are starting their process of attacks.

Yemen isn't exactly the forefront of resistance to radical islam but the Yemen government might very well find themselves up to their armpits in al Qaeda attacks, soon.
