Afghan Army And Security Forces Capture 13 Taliban

Okay, so you look at the headline of this thread and wonder...."So?" I mean, with all of the reports of 50, 70 or 100 Taliban killed in some recent battles, why would Holger put up this this story? Well, because these 13 Taliban were....CAPTURED! That's right...it's something we rarely see, Taliban actually being captured as opposed to being killed or getting away. Here's some of the story from China View:

Afghan National Army (ANA) and police on Thursday evening launched joint operation targeting Taliban insurgents in two separate eastern Afghan provinces of Paktiya and Khost arresting 13 insurgents including one high ranking commander, officials said on Friday.
Ruhullah Samoon, the provincial spokesman of Paktiya told Xinhua that the combined forces searched the area of Abudullah Qala where they engaged with militants and captured the Taliban leader named Ikramudeen along with his six followers.

The significance of this goes beyond the fact that capture of Taliban is rare - it leads to hope that some good intelligence can be extracted from these Taliban during interrogation. We have seen that so clearly in Iraq with al Qaeda captives literally singing like canaries after just a brief time in interrogation.

I'd love to hear more of the details of these captures just to see how the Afghans accomplished it but my thought is that they must have been given some good information on location and surprised the Taliban in a hideaway. That's my best guess, anyway.

13 suspected Taliban insurgents captured in Afghanistan

KABUL, August 1 (Xinhua) -- Afghan National Army (ANA) and police on Thursday evening launched joint operation targeting Taliban insurgents in two separate eastern Afghan provinces of Paktiya and Khost arresting 13 insurgents including one high ranking commander, officials said on Friday.
Ruhullah Samoon, the provincial spokesman of Paktiya told Xinhua that the combined forces searched the area of Abudullah Qala where they engaged with militants and captured the Taliban leader named Ikramudeen along with his six followers.
Meanwhile, Haseen Jan Sherzai, the chief of Spera district of Khost said ANA and police launched clear-up operation targeting Taliban militants late last night in Spera district arresting six rebels, seizing a number of weapons and ammunitions as well.
The eastern Afghanistan's frontier provinces has witnessed the surge of Taliban attacks on international and Afghan troops during past weeks when the anti-government militants continue to demonstrate their strength through suicide and roadside bombings.
Escalating insurgency and violent incidents have left around 2,500 people dead since January this year in the war-torn country.
