17 Taliban Killed in Afghan/NATO Operation In Zabul Province

More excellent news! Another nice big tally of dead Taliban from operations in Zabul province which is in southern Afghanistan. Here's a bit from the brief report on it here from Thaindian News:

At least 17 suspected Taliban insurgents have been killed in an operation carried out by the Afghan and international forces in Afghanistan’s southern Zabul province, an official said Saturday. The operation was carried out in Shar-e-Safa district Friday. Seventeen Taliban militants were killed and three captured, Faridullah Khan, a senior police officer in Zabul, told Xinhua. There were no casualties on Afghan and the international troops, he added.

Although the article is basically what you see above, it's interesting to see that three Taliban were captured - in many of these operations, we don't see a whole lot of Taliban captured - they either die or get away (unlike the Arabs in Iraq who will give up a bit easier). Hopefully we will see a good bit of intel come out of interrogation of these captives.

At the same time, we are seeing more and more Afghan army forces involved in these operations all of the time - sure, they are putting them into the news reports more now but the fact of the matter is that the Afghans ARE being put more into the front line assaults and from all of the reports I've seen, they are performing better and better.
