With Proof, U.S. Will Go After Bin Laden Inside Pakistan - With or Without Permssion

Now this is the kind of talk I like to hear! US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte made such comments in this article here from the Daily Times:

If the United States has explicit proof of Osama Bin Laden’s presence in Pakistan’s border regions, then it will categorically pursue him, US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte has said. Speaking to Charlie Rose, he said that as far as Bin Laden was concerned, the US would pursue him regardless of any permission from Pakistan to conduct a military operation within its borders. “I’m pretty confident that that’s the way the president would react,” he added.

I hope that statement makes it to the respective caves of bin Laden and al-Zawahiri this weekend. And I don't think it's a coincidence that Negroponte is making these statements now. It is clear that U.S. and NATO intelligence in Pakistan is improving by the say. Recent airstrikes inside Pakistan by U.S. command have targeted and killed key al Qaeda operatives - there is more intel coming out of Pakistan and it has been flawless so far.

With all of this being said, it always has to pick up the morale and efforts of those chasing bin Laden. Knowing that they can follow him ANYWHERE now, has to be a huge motivator. Who knows, perhaps Negroponte knows something we don't and this statement was a bit on the preemptive side? :drooling:

‘US to pursue Osama in Pakistan if it has evidence’

LAHORE: If the United States has explicit proof of Osama Bin Laden’s presence in Pakistan’s border regions, then it will categorically pursue him, US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte has said. Speaking to Charlie Rose, he said that as far as Bin Laden was concerned, the US would pursue him regardless of any permission from Pakistan to conduct a military operation within its borders. “I’m pretty confident that that’s the way the president would react,” he added. Negroponte said that Pakistan was a very important country with respect to its proximity to Afghanistan. On President Pervez Musharraf’s continued importance to the country, he said that it appeared that the prime minister’s role was taking on greater importance. daily times monitor
