Israeli Troops Fight Off Jihadist Attack At Gaza Border

Granted, this wasn't a huge incursion attempt into Israel by Pali jihadists but the fact of the matter is they nearly got into Israel and were driven back. From the article here at DEBKA:

Three Qassam missiles from Gaza exploded on open ground south of Ashkelon early Monday, April 7, as an Israeli military force tackled an armed Palestinian band trying to cross the border near Netiv Ha’asara north of the Gaza Strip. Palestinians directed mortar fire at the Israeli force from within the territory. After a lengthy firefight, the intruders retreated.

There seems to be some coordination in this attack as you read how armed palis tried to breach the border while others fired mortars at the oncoming Israeli forces. The rocket attacks continue, the assaults at the border continue, and we just had the assassination attempt on Avi Dichter the other day. It's my view that the longer these attacks keep mounting without serious consequences leveled on the palis, the more the attacks will grow in number and severity. A serious hurt needs to be leveled on Hamas as soon as possible - if they are hurt bad enough, they will reign in some of these fringe thug groups.

In the palestinian territories, this has gotten to be some sort of a competition to see which little jihadist group can claim a prize. Well, it's about time that the prize these morons claim is having 90% of their membership carried through the streets of Gaza on the shoulders of palis - carried inside coffins, that is.

Palestinians directed mortar fire at the Israeli force from within the territory. After a lengthy firefight, the intruders retreated.
Later, Palestinians shelled two Israeli forces patrolling the border at the Sufa crossing and outside Kissufim, causing no casualties.
Palestinian violence from Gaza is climbing since Friday, when Palestinians sniper fire missed internal security minister Avi Dichter, and injured his chief of bureau Matti Gil while leading a Canadian party around Sderot and other communities targeted for the missile offensive from Gaza.
Saturday, a missile exploded in Ashkelon’s industrial zone; mortar, automatic and tank-tank fire was directed at an Israeli military border patrol near Nahal Oz.
The attack, claimed by The Al Qaeda-linked Palestinian “Army of the Ummah,” Hamas, the Popular Resistance Committees and a Fatah faction.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told Sunday's cabinet meeting that Hamas is held responsible for the violence regardless of which terrorist group claims responsibility.
