"Our existence, dignity and survival, and Lebanon, are the most important things of all," he said on Sunday. "If you want chaos, we welcome chaos. If you want war, we welcome one."
This is all coming about from all of the delays in holding presidential elections in Lebanon. Recently, that election was delayed again for the 14th time! Syria and Hezbollah have been instrumental in throwing wrenches into the political process with many speculating that Syria and it's arm, Hezbollah, want the country to further fall into chaos with a void of leadership so they can retake some amount of control of the country.
All I can say is that Jumblatt better have one heckuva team of bodyguards cause this guy's got a bullseye on his back now. But it is refreshing to see one of Lebanon's leaders call out Hezbollah for what it is - a dividing terrorist group that simply acts in the interests of Iran and Syria.
Here's the full story.
Jumblatt issues Hezbollah challenge
A leading figure in Lebanon's governing coalition has stepped up the rhetoric against the opposition Hezbollah movement, warning of anarchy and raising the spectre of another civil war.
Walid Jumblatt, the Druze leader whose party is in the pro-government March 14 camp, issued a televised challenge to Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah's leader. The parliamentary vote on his appointment was postponed on Saturday for the 14th time."If you think that we will stand with our hands tied, this is pure imagination", Jumblatt said.Rally plannedHis speech came just days before a mass rally planned on Thursday for the third anniversary of the assassination of Rafiq al-Hariri, the former Lebanese prime minister.
Naim Salem, a political analyst from Notre Dame university told Al Jazeera that Jumblatt's comments reflected a shift from how he previously viewed Hezbollah."He used to respect Hezbollah, now he has shown that he is against them and [Hassan] Nasrallah," he said."It seems the political divide in Lebanon has reached a point of no return. I am afraid this may result in a violent confrontation."
