Israel's Netanyahu: Olmert Is Going To Cede Jerusalem

The Likud Party's Benjamin Netanyahu is saying that the Olmert Government is going to go ahead and cede (divide) Jerusalem and is calling for a key Israeli party, the Shas party, to bolt from the coalition and bring down the current government leadership - all to "save Jerusalem."
More often than not, I agree with Bibi - and in this case, there is NO WAY that Israel can touch Jerusalem. But Olmert has consistently swooned to the siren's song of the world for "concessions" to the palis - that has been a failed approach since day one.

Abbas cannot be trusted - this is the guy that condemns and attacks Hamas on a Monday and by Wednesday is hugging their leaders and calling for more unification. When will Olmert understand? Fatah, Hamas, al Qaeda...they are ALL the same. And in the end, if the palis, the jihadists want east Jerusalem and you give it to them, six months later they will demand ALL of Jerusalem..and if you give them all of Jerusalem, then they will want the next city and the next and the next. And the next.

Netanyahu: Olmert government taking measures to cede Jerusalem

Likud leader and chairman of the opposition MK Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday that the Olmert government is taking measures to divide Jerusalem, and urged the key Shas party to bolt the coalition and topple the government in order "to save Jerusalem." Netanyahu was reacting to ongoing wrangling between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas over Olmert's assertion that the sides had agreed to defer discussions over the status of Jerusalem to a future final phase of negotiations. "This weak government is prepared to give away Jerusalem, and is acting in order to give it away," Netanyahu said. "All its denials and attempts at whitewashing will do no good."

Officials of the ultra-Orthodox Shas have warned Olmert that they view negotiations over a future division of the city as a red line that would spur them to part ways with the ruling coalition. Netanyahu said he believed Shas leaders' statements that they want to safeguard a Jerusalem united under Israeli rule. But he added, "Why are you still in the government? Why are you granting Olmert a carpet so that he can cede Jerusalem?"
