They had seen guns here at my home and had the usual curiosity about guns that most boys do at that age. Since I've served in the military and most of my friends have also, the boys always had a million questions about our service and particularly the weapons. A few months ago I told them that I would teach them to shoot (BB guns) if they studied the NRA/Daisy information and safety sheets that I printed and gave them and passed the test I created using those materials. I have given them copies of the Constitution and had them memorize the preamble and given them a different view of America and how we became a country, sometimes in direct conflict with what they were being taught in school.
Since they were so curious about what rights we have, I directed them to study the Bill of Rights and concentrate on the the one right that protects all the others, the Second Amendment. I've instilled in them that there's nothing wrong with being proud to be an American and to never let anyone tell them different and wow, have they taken that to heart!
To see these boys go, in less than 4 hours, from knowing nothing about firearms to being able to put all their shots in the black at 21ft in all the NRA shooting positions was a very rewarding experience and knowing that they would do well, I had bought them each their own Daisy BB gun as a reward for passing the tests/for their birthday (coming up).During the day we covered many subjects, a lot in complete opposition to what they had been taught, including "gun control". Harley was particularly interested in that subject since he is most curious about why I carry a gun. We went into the fact that we have a God given right to protect ourselves and that the Bill of Rights guarantees us that right, that guns are only a tool, that people that commit crimes with guns are the ones to blame, not the guns....etc. etc.
Harley had been given an assignment by his teacher to write a short, persuasive essay and he had picked gun control of all things as his subject. When I finally noticed who had written it, this feeling of immense pride went through me like a bolt of lightning. He had really been paying attention and formed his own position based on our discussions and took the rather courageous path of writing about this very politically incorrect subject.I, as well as his mom, was further amazed to see how his teacher critiqued his essay (even though it's a form) considering her very liberal nature and his mom told me that his teacher even walked him out to the car to tell her personally how well he had made his presentation.
he is said to dwell in the castle of Kronborg, his beard grown down to the floor, and to sleep there until some date when Denmark is in mortal danger, at which time he will rise up and deliver the nation

The 2nd Amendment Through The Words Of A 4th Grader
What you have just read above is an essay written by a 9 year old boy...a class assignment to write a persuasive story for his 4th grade class and the subsequent grading of this boy's paper by his teacher. I received all of this in an email from a friend, the uncle of this 9 year old, and asked his permission to post this to show how out of the words of a 9 year old boy, we can all learn once again to appreciate the freedom and rights this country has given us all. This 9 year old boy has captured the importance of our U.S. Constitution and in an innocent way, he's sounded a call louder than any NRA leader or national politician. Now, read just how this young man came to the point of writing this amazing essay...the below is excerpted from my friend's email telling me just how he had spent some time with his nephew and brother prior to the writing of the essay. "Amazing" is all I can further add. (Hat Tip: RidesAPaleHorse - the Proud Uncle of Harley):

I am shocked that the kid wasn't hauled off for questioning and evaluation, or simply expelled for such "dangerous thoughts"
I guess the entire school system isn't corrupted.
Before anyone takes offense to my remarks, I think good gun control is using both hands.

Yet more proof that a 9 year old is smarter than the entire Democrat party.
This gives me a little hope, but then Sharku is correct. I'm astounded the child was not taken into custody for anti social thoughts.
Really makes me misty-eyed.
Maybe someday I'll have grandkids I can share with like this.
Good job, Dad. My hat's off to you.
He's my nephew William. Thank you
RAPH,
Thanks for letting me put up this essay of your nephew's! Who knows...maybe Holger Awakens will make it to Show and Tell this week!
