President Barack Hussein Obama has called for stricter enforcement of gun control laws in America based on the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona. Now, before we continue, let me ask this question...if Obama were to get what he wants as stated below from the article, how would that have affected the outcome with Rep. Giffords?
Here's what the President had to say, from the article at The Telegraph:
In an article for The Arizona Daily Star, Mr Obama said legislation to bolster criminal background checks for gun buyers had not been properly implemented, with too many states providing "incomplete and inadequate" information.
He suggested rewarding states that provide the most comprehensive information to the criminal background database.
"We should make the system faster and nimbler," the president added. "We should provide an instant, accurate, comprehensive and consistent system for background checks to sellers who want to do the right thing, and make sure that criminals can't escape it."
Now, maybe I'm missing something (and I'm sure my readers will correct me quickly if I am) but how would a "faster" and "nimbler" system have stopped Jared Loughner from getting a gun? What exactly was the criminal background of Loughner?
A couple of other questions - last time I checked, someone with a criminal background usually doesn't walk into a Walmart to buy a gun under the restrictive process put in place by the Federal government...don't they usually go underground and buy an illegal gun? Would a stricter control of guns actually take weapons out of the hands of criminals or would that only continue to inconvenience responsible gun owners?
Perhaps Obama is positioning himself - he caught a TON of heat from the far Left during the Giffords aftermath for not calling for new gun laws on the American public and perhaps Obama is setting the stage for such a call. But the fact of the matter is this - whatever Obama tries to do it will end up ensuring that the bad guys continue to have guns and the American people who have a Constitutional right to own guns will be restricted from protecting their families and property.
Barack Obama calls for more stringent gun control

The Arizona Daily Star is based in Tucson, where Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot during a January rampage in which six were killed and 12 others wounded. The accused assailant, Jared Loughner, was considered mentally unstable, yet because he was never deemed mentally ill by a judge or committed to an institution and was able to legally buy the gun police said he used.
Mr Obama acknowledged that it was not easy to find common ground between gun owners and gun-control advocates.

Yes, Obongo and his sycophants in the 'gun movement', the NRA and Wayne Lapierre, will be having their meetings and coming to agreements that are beneficial to them, although not to the gun owners and free citizenry of the USA. Mike Vanderboegh has a full write up on it over at his blog.
As for any legislation, as you point out, those who murder, rape deal drugs and otherwise ignore the law, are not hampered by having one MORE law to ignore regarding purchasing weapons.
When the thugs buy crack, they don't ask for legal advice, they go to someone and buy crack; if they want an AK or a TEC-9, they don't go to the local gunshop... they go see YoDog or P-Ragg or Shecky (?) and lay out some green or trade some dope and some cash for whatever they need. If they plan on robbing the Quick-EZ -check cashing store Saturday night and maybe blowing the clerk's head and shoulders off with a 12 gauge cut down to a ten inch barrel, do we think that they call the cops to see if it is legal?
What a**holes the libs are, from the Kenyan Bastard-in-Chief down to the lowest politicians or union punks sleeping in the gutter.
We say NO to citizen disarmament.
