As is normally the case in any attack on U.S. and NATO patrols by the Taliban, when it comes down to open space warfare with similar numbers of combatants, the Taliban got their asses kicked in Khost province, Afghanistan today with 10 of their jihadis being killed by joint NATO and Afghan forces.
From the report at DAWN:
Three suicide attackers detonated their explosives vests during a gunbattle with Afghan and coalition forces that left 10 militants and one civilian dead in Khost province of eastern Afghanistan.
Provincial police chief Abdul Hakim Ishaqzia said the battle, which lasted several hours early Saturday morning, began after insurgents fired a rocket toward a group of Afghan and Nato forces who were preparing to go on patrol in the Sabari district.
He said the joint force killed 10 militants and arrested 12 others.
A civilian was killed and a woman and child were injured by the explosions caused by the suicide bombers.
Apparently some of these clowns even thought they were going to get close enough to set off their suicide bomb vests among a bunch of our troops but my guess is that when they get nailed at 200 yards by small arms fire those vests don't produce much protection.
I do have to add here though, that one of the most frustrating things about the War in Afghanistan is the pure reach of the Taliban - even at this point in the war, they are STILL in what seems every corner of Afghanistan - west, south, east and north.
