Video: Honoring America's Peace Officers

Over the past few months, we have seen an alarming spike in the number of peace officers who have been struck down, doing their duty. To "serve and protect" should not mean being a target.

Maplewood Police Chief Dave Thomalla identified the Maplewood officer who was killed as 49-year-old Sgt. Joseph Bergeron. He was a 26 1/2 year veteran of the Maplewood Police Department. "He was very proud officer, very proud officer and he's one of the finest people I know. And he was murdered today, senselessly. And he leaves behind a wife and two beautiful daughters. We will miss him, we will miss him terribly," said Thomalla.

Police said Bergeron was shot around 6:50 a.m. when a suspect walked up to his squad and shot the officer as he sat alone in the vehicle.

Howls,

Your daughter's memory lives here today - I hope today, you can understand a little more how many of us honor those who serve and protect us today and those who sacrificed for us in the past.

Bless your daughter and you,
