Nice! We went about a week without a U.S. predator drone attack in NW Pakistan until yesterday's strike at a Taliban compound/training camp and now, this morning, another drone attack sent two hellfires into a vehicle carrying three Taliban ...killing all three.
From the report at DAWN:
I've got some high hopes for the results of this latest strike in that you don't see your regular run-of-the-mill Taliban riding around in NW Pakistan in vehicles that much - so hopefully, this took out a mid-level or higher commander.
I think it is important to point out that between these UAV strikes and the Pakistani military operations in Swat and South Waziristan, the Taliban in Pakistan have almost been null of activity in the past three months. Sure, there have been a few isolated Taliban attacks and bombings but realistically, these chumps are on their heels. As in most scenarios, when the leaders are targeted and taken out, the whole operation tends to fall apart.
I would think under normal circumstances, a good deal of the Taliban in Pakistan would be making their way across the border into Afghanistan but with what is going on with U.S. Marines in Helmand province right now, I can see why that isn't much of an option.
So, can we hope for three UAV strikes in a 48 hour period? It would be sweet, yes?
From the report at DAWN:
A US drone fired a missile into a vehicle in Pakistan's tribal belt on the Afghan border killing at least three militants on Monday, in the second such strike in 24 hours, officials said.It is so encouraging to see these UAV strikes back to back - it's called messing with the minds of the Taliban and al Qaeda. And once again we see impeccable intelligence coming to the CIA enabling them to even pinpoint a vehicle as the target they want to hit.
The attack, which Pakistani officials said was unleashed by an unmanned US aircraft, targeted the vehicle on the edge of the village of Tabi Ghundi Kala in North Waziristan, a district rife with Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked fighters.
“The US drone fired one missile, which hit a vehicle. According to our reports three militants were killed,” a senior Pakistani security official told AFP on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media.

Three killed in US drone attack in North Waziristan
MIRAMSHAH: A US drone fired a missile into a vehicle in Pakistan's tribal belt on the Afghan border killing at least three militants on Monday, in the second such strike in 24 hours, officials said.
Local officials put the death toll at four, saying the drone targeted a vehicle carrying militants just as they were leaving Tabi Ghundi Kala.
“It was a drone attack. Two missiles were fired into the vehicle. Four militants were killed,” said a local security official.
