Here we go again...as was the case after 9/11, we apparently are now seeing another form of terrorism via the mail and this time, the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan's capital of Islamabad and the U.S. consulate in Karachi both received envelopes with a mysterious white powder in them. No results of tests on the powder are back yet. Here's some of the details from The Nation:
There is no mention as to what might have been in the envelopes as far as a warning or a threat but obviously, the first culprit to look at here would be al Qaeda. Of course, at this point in time, it appears that al Qaeda and the Taliban in Pakistan have morphed into some sort of congealed mass of evil so it's hard to distinguish between the tactics of each, separately.
But the one thing to note here is the fact that al Qaeda/Taliban continue to spring new terror attack strategies and tactics throughout Pakistan. And considering how fragile the whole government situation in Pakistan is, it only makes sense that the terrorists want to do anything that would cause more and more Western pullout in Pakistan.
The US Embassy in the capital and its Consulate in Karachi have received two separate envelopes containing unknown white powder on night between Thursday-Friday.Confirming the reports, US Embassy spokesman Lou Fintor said that tests were being conducted on the substance. But he declined any comment on whether or not any embassy staffers had become sick or were under observation.Fintor said that the two outposts leading to the embassy would remain open and there was no plan to close them. He further said that a very small number of people had touched the envelopes, and that nobody was showing any signs of illness. The mysterious event has sparked a security scare in the US Embassy. Officials also declined to comment on the origin of envelopes or to whom they were addressed.
