Whoa! Talk about taking it to the Taliban! Just last night I put up the thread where initial clearing of the district of Arghandab had begun and that initial body counts of Taliban sat at 36. Now, the word is out that the clearing operation is done and the Taliban lost HUNDREDS! Let's look at the details from Breitbart:
Now, I'll feel better when this is all confirmed by U.S. or NATO command but talk about blowing out the Taliban in record time! I'm sure more details will be forthcoming throughout the day and it will be worth the wait to find out what tactics were used in this operation as we were all prepared for a long, drawn out battle over this district.
At this point in time, the only thing I can think of is that the Canadians and Afghan troops were up against a group of inexperienced Taliban or that many of them were from the prison break - the fact that the provincial governor states that the dead are mostly "Pakistani" sounds a bit odd to me. We'll see what comes out later today.
Afghan and NATO forces have cleared a district on the outskirt of Kandahar city in southern Afghanistan of Taliban fighters, killing or wounding hundreds, a provincial governor said Thursday.
"The area is cleared of Taliban now. Hundreds of them have been killed and wounded, some have been captured," Kandahar Gov. Asadullah Khalid said, without providing exact numbers.
"Most of dead fighters are of Pakistani nationality," he said.

KABUL, June 19 (AP) - (Kyodo)—Afghan and NATO forces have cleared a district on the outskirt of Kandahar city in southern Afghanistan of Taliban fighters, killing or wounding hundreds, a provincial governor said Thursday.
"The area is cleared of Taliban now. Hundreds of them have been killed and wounded, some have been captured," Kandahar Gov. Asadullah Khalid said, without providing exact numbers.

Afghan and NATO forces started an offensive Wednesday to clean up the Arghandab district outside Kandahar where Taliban fighters had massed.
As of late Wednesday, the fighting had resulted in the deaths of 36 militants and two Afghan army officers, according to officials.
Taliban fighters took over Arghandab after around 1,000 prisoners, including hundreds of militants, were broken out of Kandahar prison following a suicide attack and battle last Friday.
At least nine police guards and seven prisoners were killed in the gun battle.
Hundreds of Afghan army soldiers, backed by NATO forces, have been deployed near Arghandab and were taking part in the cleanup operation, according to Afghan Defense Ministry.
Some 400 militants had gathered in the district, officials said.
Kandahar is the birthplace and the main stronghold of the Taliban, who were ousted from power in 2001.

Just wait for MSM to call this the Afghanistan Tet Offensive. Despite what Wilted Crankpot told us back then, the Viet Cong were clobbered big time and finished as a fighting force then, after Tet we were fighting the North Vietnamese.
