Obama: U.S. Should Reach Out To Moderates In The Taliban

Here we go again...Teh One or as I would like to refer to him as "Teh Inexperienced One" has waded into unkown territory for him and is offering up suggestions now on how to better deal with the Taliban in Afghanistan - and he is suggesting that U.S. troops identify "moderates" in the Taliban and that the U.S. reach out to those moderates. Gimme a bleeping break! President Obama is showing, day in and day out, just WHY half of America was damn nervous to put this guy in as commander-in-chief. Here's the entire article from The Jerusalem Post:

Obama: US should reach out to Taliban moderates

President Barack Obama says he hopes US troops can identify moderate elements of the Taliban and move them toward reconciliation.
Asked in an interview with The New York Times if the United States is winning in Afghanistan, Obama said "no," while adding "our troops are doing an extraordinary job in a very difficult situation."
"But you've seen conditions deteriorate over the last couple of years. The Taliban is bolder than it was. I think ... in the southern regions of the country, you're seeing them attack in ways that we have not seen previously," Obama said in the interview, which was posted Saturday on the Times' Web site.
There may be opportunities to reach out to moderates in the Taliban, but the situation in Afghanistan is more complicated than the challenges the American military faced in Iraq, Obama said.

Helluva strategy, huh? Can't you just see it now...this brilliant plan of Obama's put into practice in the poppy fields of Helmand province where a U.S. unit is pinned down by 45 Taliban who are strafing our boys with AK-47's and RPG's and we have six of our troops in charge of using field glasses to identify which of the 125 Taliban just might want to sit down and have some tea and talk about resolving this situation! Brilliant, eh?

Obama wants to reach out to moderates in the Taliban...well, my strategy would be to reach out to ALL of the Taliban with hellfires, JDAM's and constant pressure. But I guess the difference is that I've noticed what the Taliban is really all about and President Obama sees them as a potential "community organization" target. There are times where I simply believe that Barack Obama views the Taliban as a bunch of disgruntled Afghan citizens who simply have a gripe with "The Man" in Afghanistan and the fact of the matter is the Taliban are pure evil. The Taliban have gleaned the Qur'an for every edict for death and destruction and that is their mantra but does our dear leader see that? Hell no. He sees them as a serial killer who just killed 20 innocent people that simply needs some time on the couch and a little lovin'.

This is a page from your boy W.'s book. Look what happened in Anbar - the US worked directly with some out and out Sunni fundamentalists (who had previously been loyal to Al Qaeda in Iraq, and who killed American troops) and was able to largely calm the province by peeling away loyalty from Al Qaeda. Will Anbar hold long term? Who knows. Iraq should really be 3 countries anyway. All Obama is doing is applying W.s Anbar strategy to Afghanistan. It may not work - but Afghanistan's tribal and clan divisions are many and should be exploited for the benefit of our troops in the field. We are already working with one former Taliban commander, Mullah Salam. I don't want to sip tea with any fundamentalist wingnuts be they Jewish, Christian, or Muslim, but ultimately its their country. Remember - the Taliban gave Al Qaeda a place to train but the 9/11 attackers were Saudi, Yemeni, and Moroccan.

So much for his promise to defeat the Taliban and get bin Laden. This will free up 100,000 troops. Any guesses on whom Hussein will be attacking instead?

Esquerita,

This is NOTHING like the formation of the Awakenings in Anbar. The Sunnis who turned against al Qaeda were residents of villages - they saw those villages and towns terrorized by al Qaeda.

The Taliban have no bloody home - they're a wandering band of animals feeding off of villages as they go. Now, if you said that Obama had concocted a strategy to reach out to pro-Taliban villagers who could turn against the Taliban and offer up some intel and some resistance, then I would agree with you, but the fact of the matter is this article refers to Obama reaching out to moderates IN the Taliban.

Findalis,

I know exactly what target you are talking about , and it is indeed chilling.

The only "moderate" Taliban, is a dead Taliban.

Sofa - If you are going to use a term like "noob" you should at least know what it means and how to apply it. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=noob

Also, if you don't recognize an allusion to a historical quote, that's not my problem.
