He could easily intimidate the State Department or ignore their calls for reform or otherwise.

Obama tried to keep the troops there past 2011. The fact that Maliki was that confident to rebuff America means he had laid down roots and would be hard to dislodge. My question is, why did the Bush administration even go forward with him? Knowing full well his connections to Tehran.

So who's really to blame for Iran's growing presence?

Edi RamaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1065080297476076227.post-55102995794891584302013-10-10T14:01:44.109-07:002013-10-10T14:01:44.109-07:00Edi,
So Bush set a withdrawal point. Are you say...Edi,

So Bush set a withdrawal point. Are you saying that you withdraw troops and then suspend all foreign policy interactions after that point? What has the Obama administration and the State Department done since withdrawal of troops to ensure that Iran doesn't get the upper hand in Iraq?

I know you want to talk about Bush but the question is not about 2008, or even 2011 but rather 2012 and 2013 when Iran has systematically gained more and more control in the region. I think those are fair questions.

:Holger DanskeHolger Awakenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14728123335596054395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1065080297476076227.post-62525518762889680982013-10-10T09:36:22.472-07:002013-10-10T09:36:22.472-07:00But didn't Maliki come to power with the bless...But didn't Maliki come to power with the blessing of the Bush administration? Wasn't it Bush that said in late 2008 that American troops would leave Iraq at the end of 2011? Wasn't it Obama that tried to keep the troops past 2011? And was refused by Maliki because the immunity of U.S. troops could not be guaranteed?

If Maliki was as we now know an Iranian agent for 22 years, why didn't the Bush administration not do anything about his political aspirations? Or monitor more closely his Al-Dawa party? Why not throw their support behind a less tainted candidate?

Edi RamaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1065080297476076227.post-35898048272592782572013-10-10T07:17:39.089-07:002013-10-10T07:17:39.089-07:00And Obama is permitting Iran to get Nukes.
